Are you finally starting a pedal company, dminner?

Re: Let's see your finished DIY projects!
No, I would need to find the right electronics guy for that...I love doing the enclosures so much, but really don't care for the electrical aspect. I find the enclosure work relaxing and the electronics work stressful haha. If I ever find a guy wanting to make some original stuff I would love to put out some stuff. HOWEVER, I do have an electronics guy that I routinely build with and he has suggested that we do small runs of four on the pedals that we build ourselves. This way we each get one and have two to sell in order to recover funds and keep building. He is likes doing the electrical but isn't really looking to create new things. Anyway, in these cases, I will be labeling the pedals "Satellite Effects." The idea behind the name is that we operate in "satellite" workshops, he does electronics in his garage and I do the enclosures in mine, several states away. The blackhole is just one we are considering make two extras to sell. That is why it is branded that way. However, I am thinking about starting something to offer custom enclosures as a way to raise some money for a new guitar.jrfox92 wrote:Are you finally starting a pedal company, dminner?

I would say that doing Custom enclosures might even be more profitable than custom pedals as so many people do it already?

I could definitely see that, just look at all the people who want JHS to basically shove their nice pedals into an ultra-simple enclosure and paint a few words on them and sell it back to them for way more than should be legal.imJonWain wrote:I would say that doing Custom enclosures might even be more profitable than custom pedals as so many people do it already?
In comparison to that, I'd pay a shitload of money just for your enclosures, dminner. You've been doing a great job.

Re: Let's see your finished DIY projects!
thanks guys. Yeah, I have been thinking a lot about doing an enclosure service. It is something I really love to do, and if it could make me a couple bucks to fund a new guitar and/or other goodies that would be awesome. It is just hard to come up on a price for things since I do the design work too, although at this point I have a pretty good collection of things that makes designing easier and faster than it used to be. Thanks for the encouragement though! Maybe it is time. I would love to see my designs make it too peoples boards. My wife just helped me make this...we will see what happens: https://www.facebook.com/SatelliteEffects

Thanks! I just finished adding the clipping diode circuit to the Valvecaster. An on-off-on toggle switch with NOS silicon diodes on one side and NOS Russian germanium diodes on the other side, with no clipping in the centre. Much dirtier now but still does the original sounds. Transformed it into an awesome od/distortion pedal.Jero wrote:Try different tubes? Put a boost in front of it! Cascade two of them! It does look nice

I meant to post this last fall! The last thing I built for myself was a Sonic Titan clone.

+1 on dminner making enclosures. I'd probably buy one and I like making my own enclosures. There are plenty of folks out there that don't like making enclosures that would probably be happy to buy them if the pricing works out.

Re: Let's see your finished DIY projects!
Thanks for the support man, especially from you, who already makes beautiful enclosures! I am going to try to give it a shot! It would be nice to have a little extra funding for projects and even cooler to start seeing my stuff on peoples boards. I am not really sure how to go about it...I inquired about the shark tank thing but I am not entirely sure I am eligible for that since I am not a business and wouldn't offer complete pedals.pickdropper wrote:+1 on dminner making enclosures. BUT, my wife made me this FB page yesterday: https://www.facebook.com/SatelliteEffects
I don't use FB much so I don't really know what I am doing, but lets see how it goes

My recommendation is two things:
1). Hook up with somebody that does boards and offer an enclosure and board combo to DIYers. These could be priced a little bet better because you can have stock artwork. Obviously, etching and finishing time factored in. No customization at this pricing.
2). Custom enclosures with 1 off artwork at a higher price. Your time is worth something. Factor in the design time along with etching and finishing
95% of people will go with option 1 because it should be the cheaper option.
I still want to do a build with you, but I'm knee deep in FFX stuff right now. One of these days.....

Hell yeah great ideas. I'd buy board and enclosure combos. Maybe even whole kits if you also decided to go in that direction. I wish more builders offered kit options.pickdropper wrote:My recommendation is two things:
