I may end up finding one that just works well despite the skinny neck. I mean, everything else on one of these things is alien to me--why not make the neck a new experience too?

First of all, I'm a bass player
I have 1 electric guitar. It's an Am Std Strat from the md 90's. I bought it new w/ JBjr HB in the bridge and Duckbucker in the neck.
I just LOVE the look of Jazzmasters and Jags. I love the sound of my strat. Do I need a JM/JAG?

If you already have a guitar you like, no.

What's the quality on the Agile stuff like?
I have always read decent. People usually likened yhe LPs to high end epiphone.
That sucker is baritone. Just give me that. Let me drop some blk/tri or bare knuckle into it and hmmmmph.
Low/mid end Agile - 2000/2500 series - are on par with the better Epiphone stuff. 3000 series and above, definitely superior - ebony boards, 3/4" maple caps, etc - stuff you can't get on an Epiphone at any price, and can't get on a gibson with without shelling out (alot) more than a grand.
Fanned fret, 8 string, the really esoteric stuff - nothing at all comparable, AFAIK, in the price range.

I love them, and while they're certainly in the same ballpark as strats, I feel like they're significantly different. To my ears a Jag is more similar to a strat, while a JM can be brighter and more ringy. Sometimes the tone knob is your best friend. Also, the trem...it's just the best trem there is. Period.
If you get a JM, my advice would be either to shell out for an AVRI or just build your own. I've found the mid-tier to be super blah. Then of course there's the Mascis, which is rad but really it's own thing.

Yeah but just changing the pickups to more classic ones bring it back to classic JM territory. I really love mine with the pickup swap while I was disappointed with the stock P90ish ones.

The simplified electronics are a no go for me though

That's never good. What have they simplified? I've only really taken a glance.

Looks like it's only got half the switches for the tone and volume.
Side note I've always found those switches to be sort of underwhelming?

Pickup switching and rhythm circuit

Ahhh. Looks like the jag got the most alterations.
I can deal with the switches being gone--I'm not a huge fan. That said, I do really like the hi-pass switch.
A lot of people really like JMs sans rhythm circuit, apparently makes the tone clearer with the simpler path. That said, I heard that can mean brighter, which I can't fucking imagine a JM being...

I'm a fan of it, they changed up the switching to include both parallel and in series configurations and then they changed the rhythm circuit to a phase switch. I enjoy switching Pups mid song, so it suits me.
