I find that I usually am much more successful having gear and FX convos with guitarists. (although they're still usually pretty lame, mostly either just an M13 or 3-4 Boss pedals) Most of the bassists tend to react like this if I mention using FX:

but when they do want to talk about it it's awesome. i just don't understand how you can use effects and not like geek out about them at least a little. i don't understand how people can do anything without geeking out. THERE'S SO MUCH INFORMATION IN THE WORLD, I WANT IT ALL.

Around here everyone I talked to geeks out about cars. I just smile and nod and pretend I have a clue what's going on. Then disappear into the bushes. I'm just gonna start busting out pics of my board to random people as if I were that annoying coworker who always wants to talk about his kids.
