Oh...well then.
Something about it just doesn't look right, tho...aside from the blank truss-rod cover.

To get a new truss rod cover you need to have one [and $50] to sent to RIC or pay $175-200 on ebay for used one... I'm going to write fuck off in Japanese on it.

Well I did have a 60's style long pickguard made for it

vs the "modern" shorter pickguard...

I don't like the gap.. actually I would have done that even if I had bought a brand new 4003...

On further review, and after seeing the two above...I think it's the solid color headstock, rather than the 2 color fade, that made me think it's a clone.
Either way, I'd love to have it! A Ric is one of my dream basses.

I think you are getting a bit of a camera,....optical illusion causing the headstock to be a little darker and smaller then normal.
Nice pick up there Mudder,....I'd be happy with a Jap Knock off of one of those.

Phase 1 of Operation Hondo Rides Again is complete!
Swapped the tuners out of the old neck and into the new, widened the neck pocket, drilled, fucked up, filled and re-drilled the holes so it fits (almost) perfectly.
A nut will be shipped out tomorrow

as a side note, Gorilla Glue when sanded smells like when you use a heat gun to strip polyurethane finishes away...
It smells delicious...strangely sweet brain damage, I'm sure.
