friendship wrote:I'm making kala chana for the first time. All the recipes I've seen involves a pressure cooker or instant pot, but I'm just doing it on the stove.
Forgot to report that the chana came out great. The next night I made a tomato-based curry sauce and threw them in with some chopped spinach. It was Pretty Good.

My doctor has me on this low-FODMAP diet, and so far it's very challenging to cook without onions or garlic. Also my bean ritual has put a big protein hole in my diet that I'm filling with meat.

I finally fixed up my BBQ and it's been open season on chicken thighs, petite sirloin, bratwurst and portabella burgers. I love grilling. It's the bomb, and the food always turns out super juicy and perfect.
Also trying to up my pasta salad game, been using Mexican style sour cream mixed with the mayonnaise to get a little tang, and then a dash of either pickle juice or golden balsamic vinegar to BAM! It up a notch. I'd totes throw down on a spice weasel if Fred Meyer had them.

I figured out steak is like $11 a pound, so I got drunk and ate a can of tuna over the sink instead

I only buy steak when it's on sale, and its usually the $4-8 A pound variety. I can't remember the last time I bought a T-bone or new York or one of those other fancy ones.
I am not affraid to throw down on pork if the price is right. I like bone in pork steaks when they have them like $1.50 A lb.
But chicken thighs is definitely the game. Usually around $2.50/lb for the boneless skinless variety, marinate them bitches in a sack in the fridge for a day or two and then BBQ to perfection. Serve with rice and a green salad.. Boom!
And that brings up another thing, can I just say that the $15 rice steamer is one of my most heavily used kitchen appliances! I use it like 4 times a week. I'll make extra rice on grill night and refrigerate the leftovers, then make a stir fry with it and any leftover chicken. Such a great device.

I have been using an instant pot since xmas and am a convert. I can make beans from dried in an hour. Including prep and browning pieces of ham if I so desire.

I'm the same way, I generally cut the cheapest cuts and buy only on-sale items. Last week I got a 4 pound rack of ribs for under $1.50 a pound. I thought I was ready to splurge last night, but I can't bring myself to do it!
Totally agreed, my rice cooker is the the most helpful tool in my kitchen. Absolute life saver after a long day of work.

Whole Foods is having a """"sale"""" on short ribs right now and it stacks with the Amazon Prime discount so I may have to give that a look. That being said, because I'm in ATX Whole Foods knows they have to compete with HEB so the meat prices here aren't as insane as they are elsewhere.
