Last update, it's still 'in progress' but will probably still be a while. I've seen guys bitch about waiting 2-3 times as long for custom projects, but even then it should end up being worth the wait. Or I'll have convinced myself that it was worth the wait. Either way works.

June 2011 you say?

Wow. A true test in patience right there.

Already posted the Obstructures in the guitar thread, but I figure this would be a good spot for talking about it too!
Got to play around with it for a few hours last night and I really dig it. It definitely needs .12's though. I can't take these .11's much longer.

Me too dude. It's actually kind of really raw aluminum. Not buffed or any sort of work done on it to make the surface look any better
The edges are really hard without any smoothing over too. The only place that I've noticed an issue with nothing being smoothed over is up at the neck joint- the two small flanks on either side of the pocket have sharp points to them. But who plays that far up on the neck anyways? haha

Yeah, looks killer skully.

I prefer not super shiny as well. My Chessie gonna get a nice matte Titanium anodized finish plus black ano'd fretboard and guards, satin chrome hardware, minimal bling. I'm all about the more industrial/utilitarian tool for making awesome sounds look myself. :thumb:

That said, some of the shiny fretboards with black inlays look pretty badass, just not my thing.

Agreed. I adore my polished aluminum Standard, but the reflective surface really highlights streams of sweat/spit that apparently come out of my face over the course of a show. Kiiiiiinda gross. If I have the means to do another all-aluminum model, I'd probably have to go with the powder-coated finish.

That Chessie design sounds real nice, though.

Yeah. I periodically check the EGC thread over at the Electrical Audio forum and there are a couple of characters there bitching about 2-3+ year waits on their super particular custom orders. So it could be a while yet.
When I ordered my Standard he initially quoted me 25 weeks and I had it in my hands within 5 weeks. (I assume someone ahead of me in line with the same order must have flaked out. A possible benefit of a basic order with no special instructions...)

Hmm. My guy is a custom order, so that may have been three weeks until it gets started. :/
Oh well, more time to save the money.

Yup, mine's a production model at least but has quite a few custom specs tho nothing insane that would require tons of planning and design, I think. Lots of the requests were cosmetic in nature along with a cool pickup switching setup and some Schaller hardware I had to straight order from Germany because the States only carrie chrome, nickel, gold, and black. They have several cooler finishes available beyond the norm but you gotta track 'em down.

Anyway, Kevin quoted 15-20 weeks but said the body and neck are already machined so it could be sooner. Here's to hoping...

I feel like a cut/chunk that close to the bridge would hurt sustain? But then if you've got an aluminum neck on it it wouldn't really be an issue at all

I've really noticed with the Obstructures that once I strum I really can just start playing notes without having to strum again for some time. It's great!

yessssss dude!! I feel like those extra strings + the aluminum neck would get such a good tone together. you gonna go for a wood body or an aluminum one?

I was just thinking though, where are the holes for the extra strings gonna go? on a regular bich they're in the middle of the headstock, but, well, an egc doesn't have a middle part to the headstock.
