And because Mold got me thinking long form (love me some Oscillating Hexagons!), here's another installment of The Band Names Thread: Behind the Music
Four Vikings and a Valkyrie
Despite their statistically higher risk of death by murder, suicide, cannibalism, or some combination of all three, some black metal fans have reached an age where they want some bleak relaxation music to go with their lutefisk and liver. Four Vikings and a Valkyrie paired corpse paint and cocktail jazz in a new and exciting way with their first single “Hey Varg, Hey Varga!”
Their initial success was marred by the untimely death of original upright bassist Ülrik Ümläühördër, whose habit of biting into dead rats on stage led to his death from hantavirus during a two week residency in “The Black Room” at Caesar’s Palace in Vegas. But his replacement (known only by the stage name Jarly Pride) made history as the first African American musician to play Black Metal Jazz.
The band came to a tragic end during the “Raid Cruise” they hosted in 2012, where fans could cruise from Fredrikstad to the UK, gamble in shipboard casinos, and catch their favorite black metal jazz bands in the main showroom every night. On the third night of the cruise, Varg and Varga were overheard arguing on deck about Varg’s suggestions that they put out a cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” as a single to commemorate the Winter Solstice. Varg thought it would be a brilliant commercial choice, but Varga saw it as a sexist song and wasn’t having any part of it. No one was ever able to prove what happened after they left the deck, but here’s what we do know: passengers saw a burning lifeboat float away from the cruise ship later that night and sink below the waters of the North Sea, and Varg was never seen or heard from again. But to this day, their first (and biggest) hit is still heard as a sort of unofficial mating call between fifty something people in corpse paint:
"Hey Varg?"
"Hey Varga!"

Bravo

That made me laugh, thanks... I really needed cheering up today so that hit the spot perfectly! I'll be back as soon as some inspiration hits.
