Confession: I'm loading up on guitar theory and music theory. I thought that learning all the notes on the neck, to pick out any note at random, would be tedious. But I've already had like 3 aha moments. Like, realizing not just that the notes repeat after the octave and that the fifth fret up is the next string, but actually seeing how the pattern repeats. Hard tO describe.

Applied this new knowledge to a riff and saw how the last note is a B that is an octave down from the first note, which is a B, etc - pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that this is the " relief" or whatever of the first note. Add in new knowledge about scales and I can tell that I'm playing a B minor scale for that riff based on the notes I play, etc.

Cool feeling, like i get something that I missed Understanding for a long time.

I've had a bass around me for 8 years now but I've really, seriously practiced...probably...under ten times.
Man, I spend soooo much time on gear info/guitar fixin'/DIY techniques/ILF and similar stuff that my actual playing skills are pretty weak. Not total shit, and I know what I do and do not want to play, but it's just embarrassing jamming with a friend or trying to come up with a song. It's like knowing the ins and outs of a car but not being able to drive it; dude, what's the point? My name's not Leo...
