Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
Gotcha
Is the only control the pickup selector? How does it sound / feel?

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
It's got a 3 way toggle for the pickup selector, and then a volume knob for each pickup and thats about it. Rolling back on the volume fattens up the P90's pretty nicely.
It feels great. The body is less than an inch thick, so that took some getting used to, but overall the weight of it isn't super noticeable. The body itself is about 2/3 the size width and length wise of my Jaguar, so if you think about it, it's fucking tiny. But not like micro or awkwardly so. I've noticed when sitting down the upper horn kinda rests in my gut a bit, but I like holding guitars really close to me and it's got no back contour to it.
The neck is like butter, aside from a few fret ends that could use some sanding. The guitar itself for being 10+ years old barely shows its age, but it's had a refret by Obstructures. The rivets for the fret markers make it feel extra industrial. I've noticed that the fret markers are a little raised, being screws and all, but they haven't gotten in the way. Tuners are neat. You've got to feed the string through the hole, then tighten the outside of the tuner to lock it in before you tune. They're Schallers.
Headstock is also tiny. I guess I should stop saying tiny and say compact instead. Because everything is just compact, not cramped.
The control plate that houses the pickup switch and the knobs consists of two plates that are hex screwed onto the solid milled body. The top plate moves around a little bit, but I just need to find the right hex key and tighten it.
Definitely could use .12's. I just prefer a thicker string, although the .11's don't feel THAT bad.
The sound is really awesome. The pickups are mid to low output P90's, which is a bit of a change since my Phat Cat is wound so hot. But I think I like the mid output better because the guitar likes to feedback. Not in a stupid way, just, having two single coils way, which I like for the most part. The sustain is hefty and it really picks up everything you play, whether you meant it or not. I've been leaving an optical compressor on to boost the signal a bit, sterilely, before I send it through the rest of my board. My Rusty Box also stays on, with the treble rolled down to about '3'. I've noticed that harmonics REALLY are easy to produce and sustain almost infinitely.
The case it came in is all aluminum too, it's really neat.
Overall I really dig it. I wouldn't mind a bit more bite from the pickups, but that's my only quarrel

That aluminium guitar looks fucking awesome! I'm not totally sure on the tuning pegs coming out the 'wrong' way but aside from that it's completely amazing.
And that 335....
Dammit you guys!

It's an Obstructures! It's before they called themselves obstructures. The guitar itself is a little over 10 years old.
And yeah Monkeydancer- took a few minutes to get used to the tuners, but it's not like a huge pain like I would have expected it to be. Just a little weird haha

Cool! Saw those a while back and forgot about them, nice stuff. I think your guitar looks loads better than the designs they currently have on the website.

Yeah, I really dig it man. I love how cold it is too. It's weird.
I compared it to my Jaguar this morning, and while it looks like a midget in the rack, it's actually 5/8" longer in the neck, the body is just 2/3 the size of my Jaguar.
It stays, and almost tucks, close to my body while playing which counteracts the weight really really well.

Yeah! They're fucking weird but awesome Shallers! Not only do they lock down to the headstock, but the circles on the end actually lock the string in the tuner. This thing was MEANT to never lose tune, EVER!

so how hard are you trying to knock it out of tune?

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
I apparently must just strum EXTREMELY hard when I play. When I had taken lessons in my early teens my teacher said 'Are you angry at your guitar or what? There is no need to strum that hard dude, relax'. I guess that explains the Jazzmaster strings popping all the time, the strings on my Jaguar popping, me breaking strings regularly, etc. My mom saw the pack of strings that the guy included with the guitar and said 'I bet those won't last very long' and then while I was playing with the guitar last night I stopped for about 10 minutes to fudge around with some settings on my pedals and my mom was like 'oh I thought you broke a string already, glad to see that's not the case' hahahah
