Any capsule reviews on the Critter & Guattari Pocket Piano? My friend is traveling overseas next year, and needs an instrument he can carry in a backpack. The Pocket Piano seems a little expensive (paying extra for the cool design aesthetics, I guess) but it looks pretty simple, and somewhat indestructible. Is there anything else you could recommend? As a point of reference I was going to get him a Casio SK-1 which is only a fraction of the price of the Pocket Piano, but much bigger and way more fragile (unless the Pocket Piano isn't as sturdy as it looks). My friend isn't a knobs guy, more of a keyboard plonker but likes the weird stuff, just no digital menu diving or complicated setups. I already know instruments like a Korg Volca wouldn't be suitable. Any comments or hot tips? Piano-related, small, portable, basic and sturdy?

Okay so I'm getting a Pocket Piano for my friend who's heading overseas. Any pedal suggestions for the Pocket Piano? (Already got a micro delay and looper.) Even a general pedal category suggestion, something that won't get boring or wear out it's welcome? 5 plug daisy chain, so there's only room for one more pedal. Suggestions?

I find that the Boss PS-2 is a lot of fun with the PP. The sounds of the two really compliment each other.

If your friend's going to chain these, don't forget a polarity converter, since the Pocket Piano needs a positive charge.

I would get a second delay or a reverb. The sound of the PP can be quite sharp, so it will cut right through a lot of effects. Stacking delays will also give a much fuller sound. If your friend returns from abroad and wants to incorporate it into a daily setup, putting a reverb in front of phaser or flanger will provide something to grab onto.

At home, I usually go PP > reverb > phaser > delay
or
PP > tremolo > delay > secondary modulation > delay

If I was making a 5-pedal, budget travel board for the PP and could only get one pedal over $100, I'd probably go:

Hotone Tremolo (50-60)
Zoom MS-70CDR (95 used)
T2 reverb (85-100)
Bad Stone reissue (74)
Catalinbread Echorec (about 160 used)

Some other suggestions/thoughts:

Zoom MS-70CDR (most sounds for a small footprint, can be battery-powered also)
Subdecay Quasar V3 (more exotic modulation)
Hotone Tremolo (impressive trem for the price)
EHX Canyon (variety in a small package)
TC Hall of Fame (plug-and-play, no fuss reverb)
Alexander Space Race (I think this would be excellent for lo-fi & analog modes)
Subdecay Starlight MKII (can do pseudo-chorus/pseudo-trem as well)

Also, if you want to stick with pedals that can be damaged or lost with no stress involved, these are only $30. https://www.amazon.com/Xvive-Analog-Del ... vive+delay

This is great info you guys, thanks a bunch for sharing. I'm already aware of the Hotone pedals because he used to use those Wally loopers. I got him a couple of those, he was previously using two Wallys to resample loops before, but maybe two loopers will be unnecessary with the Pocket Piano, since it does arpeggiation pretty well. Thinking about a 2nd Hotone delay, or the tremolo. They are awesomely tiny, and size is a factor.

I also got him a Mooer Audiofile micro headphone amp, so he can practice in a hotel room, etc, I probably paid too much for that, but I couldn't find a deal on that, and the feature set seems to be useful (amp simulation, boost capability, headphone jack and 1/4" jack out).

I've been wanting to get a TAFM to replace my unpleasant surprise. But this is the longest I've gone without switching up stuff on my board and I've gotten so used to my tone that I'm hesitant to change thing up. Do you guys have this issue? Do you just take the plunge and hope for the best?

As currently a non gigging musician I do what I want and give no fucks. That being said, you know that TAFM is going to sound beef as fuck, so I mean really are you taking a big chance? Hehe

TRUE! As long as it gets the cruddy gated crunch that my US gives me, I'm good.

As far as gated fuzzes go, you might try a Conquistador sometime---likely more as a compliment, though, than someone's lone fuzz.

I feel the US is unique enough, that I'd have a hard time replacing it.

My idea of change is switching up my daily chain, not actually selling one device to acquire another. I've never been able to embrace practicality.

My current favs are: Supro Fuzz, Marq Won, Malekko Wolftone Unity MKII, Fairfield US, and EQD Monarch. Happy hunting, NB.

Has anyone used a Rusty Box with an HM-2 stacked on bass? I’m curious about replacing my Sansamp with one, a rackmount TS50b style preamp this dude on a Facebook group builds. My always on tone is HM-2->Sansamp->800RB currently. Always with a P-Bass usually tuned to C# standard.

People really need to stop making dumb faces for their video preview image. I can't take this shit anymore.
