Replacing the AC30 at home?

Already sold the AC30. Total overkill for living in an apartment complex

Currently using an old Marshall while waiting to get a new amp. I really hate the sound of Marshalls. :grumpy:

Wot?? :?: What kinda Marshall we talking about?

Fwiw...I replaced my AC30 with an AC15C2 cause the 30 was too much for home use. Turned out the AC15C2 was still way overkill, even though I don't even play super quiet at home...

Also, Marshall style amps get alone WAY better with pedals imo. Especially plexi/super lead types, though the jmp's and jcm's I used to have were also good pedal slaves.

I think the AC15s are terrific apartment amp.

I was always dissatisfied with every amp I've owned before those, namely a Fender Champ, an Orange R30 half stack and Marshall JMP-1 pre with a solid state power amp (pumpkins phase), stuff like that, really tried a lot of options. Back when I had the Orange (too big and problematic to transport) and Champ (too little volume for band use), I got an AC15C1 to leave at a practice space.

Before dropping it at the space, I played with it at home and It sounded great even at bedroom volumes. So I sold the Orange I had back then and got the AC15HW1. Band activities stopped, so I only kept the AC15HW1 and the Bassman that had replaced my Ampeg B2 stack for bass. Because a year after that I realized I would probably never play in a band again (I like making electronic music at home with someone else a lot better), I sold both the Bassman (for a hefty profit) and the HW1 (without a loss) and custom ordered a Verellen. I think amps are cool for apartment use from 5 to 15 watts but what really matters is 12" speaker. Every time I scaled down to 10, it felt so "tiny" on the low end.

Would love to get my hands on a Roland JC though. Would complement the Vox/Hiwatt blend of the Verellen nicely. A nice workhorse that would take a beating and that I could drag around everywhere and mishandle with synths and such. Would be totally rad. But the other difficulty with apartment living is limited room

Still gassing for the JC-40, especially now that I'm seeing them cheaper than their vintage counterparts.

I'd love to have one of those old Traynor combos...

I have an AC4C1-12. I was just playing it with the Dirge Rangemaster, that I got from PeteeBee, and an Epi Les Paul Special w/P90's. It was glorious! Like falling backwards, eyes closed, into the warm comfy bed that is The Zone. However, I'm not too crazy about the AC4TV's. It has got to be a C1, for me.

Yeah. Problem with the vintage ones over here is scarcity. I've been watching the classifieds for a while, and there's a chance I might have to take an afternoon of driving back and forth to get my hands on one if I ever get room for one. But I'm afraid the JC-40 will feel small.

Really need to hit the music store, there's plenty I want to try. A Roli controller, a JC-40, more electric 12 strings, the Korg Volca FM and Kick...

The AC4C1-12 feels like the dream apartment complex amp though. Low wattage but 12" speaker. I would have definitely gotten one back in the day on my quest for bedroom soundgasm.

Not for me.

Do you live in an apartment at the Palace of Versailles?

15W is still too loud for an apartment unless I really don't care who I annoy. Even 5W in an apartment can be excessively loud. :idk: Really depends on the apartment and how tolerant your neighbors & the people you live with are.

Yeah, bigger speaker is always better. :D

Nope. I live in a mid end 1970s building in the suburbs :idk:

I should mention I play clean and get all my dirt from pedlols. I'm not saying the Verellen is dimmed all the time, it's on like 1-2 at home and maybe 5-6 when playing out? I don't play with a drummer either so it's not too hard keeping in the mix, though my bandmate has a Hiwatt head with 2 2*12

Edit: Also Versailles is a shithole and that castle is a bitch to heat up in winter and all the tourists who enjoy the vestiges of royalty would make it a bitch to enjoy life.

Yeah, it's all relative.

I used to play with a 100W head & 2x15 cab at home and it sounded great at a reasonable volume. (The amp was set between 2 and 3.) :thumb:

My PRRI with C10R has a better bottom than my AC4. Size isn't all that matters. You gotta be able to put some power behind it.

I was once anti-10". And, I hate to like the C10R. But, I do. I, also, have a pair of MOD10-50's, in a closed-back 2X10, that are wicked.

I put a MOD10-50 in a second cab for my champ, didn't make it feel less "tiny" and ice picky and stuff :idk

I'm liking the sound of the new Boss Katana amp.

I discovered a lot of dissatisfaction I had came from not working my amps. Going to small amps has brought much joy back to guitar playing.

My main sound is a clean sound. I only use fuzz for textures. I don't doom I mean.

And I can assure you I have no frustration with the Verellen. It's my spirit animal in an amp form. Every time I play it I'm amazed of how beautifully it sounds and reacts to my playing. All it took was a bassier AC15 style amp with a fat Fane Crescendo style speaker. Beautiful soft highs, deep and wall shaking lows
