Went and got meself a four-pack of Innis and Gunn rum cask aged... which, as the label promised, is aged in old rum casks. And you know, I liked it. Quite a bit. It was sweet, but not too much so. Had the complexity that I like in a Porter without being too heavy. Drank nice & smooth.
Pity they only come in four packs, but I managed to distract my friends with other stuff that I purchased, and made off with two of the Innis and Gunns for later.
Oh, and on Friday I had my favorite coffeehouse porter at a bar that had it on nitro. Soooooooooooooooo smoooooooooooooooooooooth. Now THAT was a good "working lunch."

I've almost been dreading cracking it open, afraid it was going to just be a bucket of vinegar at this point (even though I know that Flanders Red's are supposed to take 12-18 months anyways). Well, we finally cracked it open today and gave it a taste. I have to say, it is damn good. Almost perfect. The only thing I would change about it is that it is just a bit too sour for most people's palates, even though I think it's delicious as it is. So I decided to brew a half-batch of the same beer, but without the bacterial strains, just with normal yeast, and blend them to bring the sourness down a smidge. Another couple weeks, and this baby should be ready. I think this one is going to be BJCP-competition material
Going to blend and bottle my Flanders Red Ale tomorrow, for which I am extremely pumped. Also going to bottle my latest brew, assuming it came out good. I can't wait to try this bad boy, as this is Mk IV, and I like to think that I'm refining the recipe to perfection at this point.
Got a six pack of Goose Island Honker's Ale for tomorrow, should be pretty sweet. Been drinking mainly Belgian Ales lately so an English Style Bitter should be a nice change of pace. Also got a nice big bottle of Delirium Nocturnum waiting for me

That is a tad strange but hey not bad, Nocturnum is a lot more expensive than PBR. PBR definitely is one of my favorite cheaper beers but I love those somewhat high ABV (8-9%) Belgian beers
Never had Nocturnum, but I have killed a few big bottles of Tremens and I loved it.
I've discovered that i prefer lighter beers (hence teh PBR preference), and Nocturnum being a belgian white is just right and the potency is intoxicating.... but at 10$ a bottle around here it's a little out of my price range, although i did have a beer one time that blew my mind but i can't remember the name, all i remember is that it was Lucifer's something....

Yeah I definitely only buy a bottle of Delirium once in a while, usually its just cases of PBR, Bud Light or cheap whiskey like Old Crow.
On first sip straight out of the fridge,...I get the feeling that they overdid the hops in the recipe but as it warms up a little the hopiness mellows out.
