Haha don't worry, it's extra real! *smile*

There's a change I gotta make though, guys, it's gotta be done I think... hear me now...

I gotta make it so you get two quests in one, choose-able with a toggle switch. On one side of the toggle, a dirty quest of distortion fun.. on the other side of the toggle, a clean quest where CTRL1 is no longer a gain knob, it's a third digital control for the effect. Same patches for both quests, same patch order, just one side has distortion on CTRL1, other side is all clean with an extra control.

I can accomplish this with an extra memory socket and a dpdt toggle... we'll have to lose the jewel as that's where the toggle will go... the led will fit underneath the toggle, a small one.. we'll need a new pcb layout.. the boxes Adam has will still be fine since they actually have a really small hole drilled for the jewel, right where the toggle will go, it was meant to be..

Whatcha guys think of this idea? Let's take this right to Ultimate BitQuest from the get-go!

Although I imagine I'll be using the dirty side more, there is a huge chance that many of us will start, after time, desiring a cleaner signal to run after the reverb and the bit crushing effects, and if it's not there we may end crashing your place up in the mountains with a great many protests... which could get ugly. Not because the dirty side is boring, unstable, unpleasant or anything like that, but that a smaller LED—and a more expensive price—would be a sacrifice I'd happily, gladly make for that extra versatility. I don't know how many times I've bought pedals assuming I won't use certain sounds it produces because it's not usually my thing, to find out that it's my favourite part and one I cannot live without. That's what is so awesome about cool pedals like this. I think it's worth it, but maybe some demos would help???

Any ideas what the vacant CTRL 1 would now function as on the clean mode?

Ryan wrote:Yep, it's true, although I'm gonna ask for some coolness from people with this idea... I mean, there isn't gonna be new patches every single week or something like that.. these patches take dozens of hours to make perfect. And I don't really want people emailing and asking for custom patch work all the time, it's too time consuming.. but over the months and years, as I work on other Spin pedals and patches and make cool new sounds that work with high gain, I'll work them into new BitQuest patches and either change the line-up that it ships with or let people know there's a choice of lots of other patches after they get their pedal kinda thing.. we'll have to see exactly how it plays out, it's untested waters really... You guys that hang around here and are in the know will have access to whatever patches you want probably.

Totally, mate.

Ryan wrote:Right now I don't have any plans to make another adventure pedal like the BitQuest.. I want to do a cool delay and reverb next.. and keep the BitQuest as a distortion pedal adventure.. but with the BQ you can just turn the gain knob all the way down and it's the same as your dry signal, no gain, no gate, just straight ADC input through the effects.

So the drawback for you is you'd have a control knob that in your case would be better suited to being something else, not a gain knob.. and maybe ultimately one day I'll make it so there's a clean and dirty BitQuest.. dirty BQ with a gain knob, clean BQ with the gain knob being a different digital control... I don't know if I'd make two versions of the pedal but I could see two versions of the memory chip being available down the road...

Cool delay??? You mean even cooler than the ILFDD?????????????? Is that even possible???????

OH and I haven't really said how excited I am about all this, but I am! Sooooooooooo awesome!

I loved the mockup with the amp jewel on page 11, too bad that will have to go away but double bit quest is soooo worth it. Time to pinch some pennies.

I was pretty stoked about the jewel idea, and would hate to see it go, but if there's no better location for the switch I think that is an important enough feature that we can live with it
