Still jonesing for that hifi amp?
Definitely piling on the low wattage stuff. This fucker should be loud tho!
And yep, ready for the hifi when you are buddy.

Woah, congrats, man. That's awesome. I'm dying to modify my Jet City to similar specs to the Hovercraft.

Just got a new amp. Had my eye on these awhile now, each one is spec'd slightly different, $625 shipped. Just got the fatty tax return, finally said fuck it.
Hovercraft Dwarvenaut 20W. 2xEL84, sounds thick as shit, described as a Sunn Model T hi gain circuit mashed with some Matamp for good measure. This particular build is closest to the one featured in youtube demo below but has an added FAC control for more flexibility. Controls on the front include gain/bass/mid/treble/master/HF drive.
Can't wait to check this one out!

EDIT: Fixed that video
Sweet amp...congrats. That sounds massive for 20w

thats kind of like how a wizard can sound. the addition of blocking distortion into the mix for the nasty subbass stuff in the signal.

Thanks Dudes! And yeah Nick, it reminded me a lot of the high gain stuff you build and demo sonically speaking.
That Hovercraft stuff sounds mean as fuck after they're done modding/recycling/tweaking 'em to death. He said mine is probably the loudest and meanest of the bunch, high hopes for this one.

I like a little blocking distortion.

Agreed. It's a fine line but a little goes a long way towards sounding awesome.

It brings the bowel-moving lows.

I must be an odd bird as I specifically asked Nick to prevent blocking distortion in the Naki design as it bugs me so much. Maybe it was that at the time I was using Emi Swamp Thang speakers which extremely emphasize any blocking dist in your signal in an unpleasant way (IMO of course). I like my dirt tone like good peanut butter, smooth and crunchy.

yea its both a function of gain level and the low end limit of the HPFs in the amp. You probably could eventually drive your amp into blocking with sufficient input signal. Not easy to achieve of course.

I have no desire to find out, it sounds perfect as is!

Yeah, I think it depends highly on speakers and like I said, it's such a fine line imo.
I did the same with my Metro though, definitely wanted to avoid any blocking when I slammed that amp with fuzz but that's my pure pedal amp. I think it sounds smoother when it's just amp gain involved though.

amp gain always has my heart but lately been doing so much cleaner amps so i have to be into the pedal gain. Not until the Fog Machine drops tho.

OK, I'm a dumbass. Somebody 'splain to me what blocking distortion is / does.
