MuRF is better than people realize. Great drive circuit, too. You can find non-MIDI versions fairly cheap...think I nabbed in for 180USD? Then traded it for the MIDI version. I'd get the Bass MuRF if you don't want to go full MIDI, though.

I was thinking about the MIDI version and the possibilities that might open up...but then I got practical and thought about when I'd actually use all that.
I was thinking of going down the Bass MuRF road.
