The Dahon was solid enough. I'd recommend considering one. It's just that I really didn't need a folder. My primary concern was wheel clearance when goin' up and down stairs.
I recently got a little BMX bike and I'm pretty happy with that for makin' short trips around town. Obviously, that's not gonna work for you for commuting.

Yeah folding so it works as luggage is part of it. The Dahon I've spotted is a bit pricey (a little over 500€) and I was hoping to find a cheap solution as I'm not gonna use it as a main bike for a short period (probably 6 months).

There's a local builder here who does this:
http://www.bilenky.com/retrofits
If I needed a bike that breaks down, that's the route I'd go. Obviously, you're probably not gonna ship your frame over here for that, but maybe there's a European builder who does something similar. In fact, I just looked and found this list:

The format will be an issue. Can't take that on mass transit.
Thanks for showing it though, I like the concept

Gotcha! So, you definitely need something with smaller wheels. If I can think of anything else, I'll throw it up in the thread here.

I've started looking at kick scooters. Down the rabbit hole I go.

What's cool with bike shorts/bibs? My friends who cycle pretty seriously say just get bibs. My not wanting to spend a lot of money thinks just get shorts. I'm wanting to add cycling into my workout routine. I'm having a hard time running more than 45 minutes without my knees hurting. My bike seems like a good way to mix it up a bit.

keeps the pad where its supposed to be (and other stuff)
no band around the waste that becomes irritating
shorts can migrate down

So it's well worth it? Especially if I'm using it for my long workout days...

I guess its personal preference but I think they wind up being more comfortable.

Ouch, that's not good to hear about Bilenky. I've never dealt with them, but it's good to know. Their stuff does look nice though.
I'd rather have a "normal" bike with couplers than a folding bike.
If I do eventually end up looking for one (probably not), I'll now know to look to a builder other than Bilenky.

Hopefully she now has some extra good bike karma goin' for her.

I just looked up what that bilenky retrofit cost...some guy said he paid them $2000 to do that to his frame
what the fuckkkkkkkk
thats like the cost of complete custom steel frame
just buy a new bike at the place you travel to
or just buy something like a rictchy breakaway
