Wow...great etch! Very clean!

Finished this last night (Keeler Kick):

Alrighty then... I decided to stick a fork in this sucker... FINALLY!!! I've had the bag of parts sitting around for long enough me thinks.

I decided to stay true to the Russian angle, finally settling upon two MP16B's for Q1 and Q2, with a nice phat GT402B in the Q3 slot. As an added bonus, I did a bit of free-cycling, using the majority of the components (including the shielded wire) from a Farfisa organ that I gutted last year. I could have used the 1N695 diode that was in the organ too, but I elected to run with a 1N450 Sylvania instead. Doesn't make any diff audio-wise, but it does look like it can out of some 1960's nuclear power plant. Naturally, I had to redo the vero, since these parts were not exactly, ahem... small. Also, since I was removing them from another board, the lead length was very limited, so I had to work around that as well. In the end, it wasn't anything that couldn't be handled with a digital vernier, and everything fit nicely into the BB enclosure.

Tone section resistor is 39K. Couldn't find a 43K on the Farfisa boards, and I was adamant to use what was in there.

Measured with a Peak DCA55 meter, room temperature (20 deg. C) the transistor gains/leakage re as follows;
Q1 - 61 / 0.04mA
Q2 - 64 / 0.06mA
Q3 - 112 / 0.12mA

My final voltages are as follows. Guitar plugged in, with guitars volume at zero, pedal plugged into the amp, all pedal controls at maximum;

Supply voltage = 9.08v

Q1
E - 1.472v
B - 1.535v
C - 4.90v

Q2
E - 1.366v
B - 1.472v
C - 4.90v

Q3
E - 0.0mV
B - 26.3mV
C - 2.265v

My latest build, a Suhr Riot clone, box etched with Caustic Soda.

My first successful kit build (only build for that matter). From General Guitar Gadgets, this is a Triangle Big Muff Pi. I had attempted a Fuzz Face last year, scrapped the project because I couldn't debug it for the life of me. I have a long ways to go with all this in general. Anyways, this pedal, I took a shitload of time to do and was extra careful and I think I got extra lucky because it worked right out the gates. It's the big muff I've always wanted.

Side note: any suggestions for information regarding perf board building? I'm perusing all of the info under the DIY Info Collection post, but figured I'd dig for any other useful info. I'm brushing up on schematic reading now, I figure that will help me the most.

Was gonna do two in series but after testing the first one thought that was a dumb idea. Probably A/B and just have different settings for each.

Thanks man! I use an approx 40% solution, so 40g of lye per 100ml of water, anything over 50% makes the reaction too strong and it eats away at the mask in no time! If you're going to try it just be sure you only ever add lye to water and not the other way round, it creates a much more violent reaction mixing the latter way. Also thick rubber gloves are a must, that shit burns!

Right on, might have to give that a try some time. I've used it before, just not for this purpose. Vinegar works pretty well at soothing the burn, btw.

Dual fuzz - D.A.M. meathead w/ 2N2222's, and Dr. Tony Balls 1966 w/ BC107's. Both on together sound killer!







Those etches are looking really really good...gonna see if I can get my hands on some lye and try your approach for my Klon(e) I'm gonna do up!

That's a sweet looking pedal man, you should definitely get on the etching would work great with designs like that!
