Just got back from battle of the bands. Didn't win, didn't even place. I think the qualifications for winning were must be either thirteen or a douchebag.

That aside, I got to dress up like a Japanese rocker and play to a great audience. Fuck. Yeah.

sounds like battle of the bands are the same no matter what country you live in. ours are the same. doesn't matter how tight your set is or how great your songs are, that aspect is usually only worth at most 50% of the total score. the other 50% is on stupid shit like 'tickets sold' and 'crowd participation.' so basically if you can string a few fucking songs together but get 100 people to buy tickets and yell at you, you win.

still, you definitely won by dressing up like a japanese rockstar, i've always wanted to go x-japan on stage but i don't know how well it'll be received!

Just do it. I've never been made so happy by my hair, whenever I thought about it I giggled a little. There will be pics in the "lets see you" thread. But it looked a little like this except I'm caucasian:

And I never have received so many compliments.

if you can get your hair to do that you win as far as i'm concerned. you can't say "pompadours" without "pompous" LOL.

I'm jealous, that's so fucking cool!
A couple of years ago I bought two kinds of pomade, thinking it could defeat my hair and turn it into the biggest, sweetest pompadour ever. I used way too much and it still wasn't strong enough to hold it in place...
Nothing but this packet of special conditioner will get that stuff out. I looked like Edward Scissorhands for two weeks.

I always disliked the idea of B.O.Bs. I'm sure they are fun and all,...but music isn't really supposed to be a competition. Pitting bands against each other for what really amounts to a popularity contest,...or is judged on subjective opinions is something I'm not really all that down with.

RE: Pompadours,....I'm willing to bet that guy picture probably used Knox/Gelatin to get his hair to do that.

I've rocked a Pomp in the past and I could never really get it right. The barber always made it look awesome. I gave up on it cause I realized that Pomps really aren't my style.

What he says! When I play I want to hang out with great people and have fun, not compete with douchebags. Of course you could turn it around and make fun of it. Like a friend and me once thought about hiring a children's choir so we could get the required medium age for a contest. That would've been fun!

On the topic of band competitions- We (marching band) were qualified to take part at the European Championship of Traditional Music in Seedorf/Switzerland. And the Radio-show we played today went great! Nobody (not even me) messed up and it was a huge success. They said, that if they ever need a band to play that kind of show again, they'd call us :yay:
General musical awesomeness. Also- maybe going to tour China with the Marching Band in April... but that's not sure yet.
