This seems like a step backwards in a weird way? As someone who doesn’t enjoy using computers to make music, I appreciate the DAWless movement. But this seems like it defeats that purpose? If this is your thing, why not just use a laptop and a DAW? It’d probably be easier to use??

Trackers are a different workflow, thats mostly why. I like it way more than filling out a piano roll in a "regular" DAW and I couldn't tell you why. I guess it's more like working on hardware but it is also pretty much as computerized writing music can be. I agree it is kinda stupid to have a tracker in a box just so you are DAWless and couldnt tell you why its surfacing other than it being idem as fuck.
Best thing about trackers tho are the real time sample effects, you can do chopping pretty much on the fly in the midi note roll once you get it down plus alot of stuttery jittry and gatery stuff

Isn't everything a step backwards in a weird way since the conception of (even weirder) technologies like pure data and supercollider?
Interface of that Poylend tracker looks good and intuitive, and I think that's what the average musician appreciate the most. Although hardware is getting more and more complex that just getting a PC setup would be more logical, downside is that these days gear is more appealing than the things we create with

If it gives you the ability to do things that are more difficult to so in a DAW, or if it’s a workflow thing, then I can see using one. Those two reasons are the essence of why I don’t use a DAW.

If it’s intuitive and easy to use/set up, then it makes sense. I agree that as you get a more complex hardware setup, it seems like there’s a point where it just makes more sense to make a PC setup. Gear has always been more enticing than actually creating something, new gear has the promise of new and unknown sounds and abilities. If that promise is true, then it undercuts the value of anything you could make without that new gear. Potentially increasing your abilities through purchasing is always going to be more appealing than actually doing something.

Never heard of them, and certainly I don't need it.
But I want it!
Is anybody doing a stereo rat?
And not 2 rat in 1 enclosure like the Deuctone.

I have a bunch of boards and could build something like this but I'd be interested in what the appeal is since most stereo sources could potentially overwhelm the rat clipping amp pretty quick. You'd probably want a blend control for each side as well. Also wondering if something like this would be better with separate controls for each side or just dual gang pots so each control tracks the same for each side?

Yes, I had one on the works with a builder actually. Blend and line level capable Rat based pedal that was never delivered
There was also a speaker cranker-ish on 1st channel and a mix control to blend both.
The appeal? A small box that does what I want.

Oh yeah having a weird need and looking for a thing that does it is a feeling I know all to well.

Why not making it mid/side instead of just 2-channels of rat. Distorting the side on a stereo source is a real joy

If each side has a blend control you could do that just with knob tweaks.
