Got new heads, and the new tom mount put on:

Still gotta get the new kick batter head on and the the new reso on the floor tom but so far so good. It sounds amazing (with or without ear plugs) and somehow plays better than my last kit. Theres more rebound and less impact shock somehow :idk: but along with the new kit, new sticks, and a conscience attempt at improving my stick technique I'm having less and less fatigue and pain in my arms / wrists. :yay:

Yeah man they sound great. They have alot more treble / attack to them than I was expecting and its kinda weird hearing it behind the kit, but out in front and under mics it sounds fucking fantastic.

Thats right, its like if 90% of guitar makers used warmoth bodies.... the drum world is so weird...

They sound huge man, if you get a custom kit with kellers and dual 45 edges you can't really go wrong.

I'm not a fan of Remo, I dunno what it is but their heads never last as long and aren't the kind of wet sound I like. The powerstroke 3 on this kick though is pretty nice, I'll report back though once I put my emad heavyweight on there.

sooo if I find a concert bass drum for sale how hard is it to convert to a kick drum?

tap and mount for legs, new heads and go?

it cant be THAT easy is it?

concert bass drums go up to 40s...

or am I just getting to a point of no returns?

That's pretty much it!! Pretty simple, but yeah you are definitely getting into point of no return. Anything larger than 28 or 30 will not only be a hindrence size wise but you will also have issues finding heads and transporting it.

you would be amazed how many you come across when you are out gigging. Seems like there are more than it should be allowed over vastly different areas.

This /\

Dive bars often have horrible sized or placed doors. When you can't open the door all the way you knock off 4+ inches from useable pass through area, then with kick drums you have counter hoops that stick out often 1.5-2" from the head. So you have say an 18" depth kick drum, add 4" of hoop and you end up with maybe an inch or two on either side just for your fingers. It's a tight fucking fit. I had a 22" dia x 24" depth kick drum before that was near impossible to get through doors unless I held it upright and even then it was a tight and laborious fit.

It might seem tempting to pick up a marching bass drum, and you can simply get some hardware and get smart about it, but..... I wouldn't. Bigger is not always better. While you might find people playing 28" bass drums here and there, I would say you get into diminishing returns very quickly. The overall sound can get a bit sloppy. Forget about easily finding new heads, and oh yeah, the bass drum beater only goes up sooooo far. Meaning, that even a 26" kit will put point-of-impact of the bass pedal beater just under center. Something bigger gets even further off the mark. Now, I wouldn't mind having a large concert bass drum for effect, sort of like having a gong. There are deals to be had. It's pretty close to new prices, but I would like to see a pic of the John Bonham kit that is in the Guitar Center used section. LOL, I was going to link it, but that shit is gone, gone.

Just get this.>> http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/pro ... ue-acrylic

Then give me a call, cause I want to hear it!!! I bet I could just walk out my front door in Kent and hear it. LOL
