Here's my amp - JCM 900 100 watt SL-X. It's currently in the process of being modded to have cleaner preamp tubes and have the secondary gain circuit (11-20  ) removed to allow for a more clean/classic marshall tone at higher volumes (plus he's, you know, doing some other circuit stuff that I don't understand). I bought the head about 2 years ago and got a swell deal on it, thinking I wanted to play in a heavier band, but now I want a cleaner tone for spacey pedals and to use fuzz pedals through a cleaner amp for the fuzzed out parts, but I also can't afford to just replace this with something else on a whim, so I am renovating to suit my needs. I highly doubt it will affect the resale value of a 90's marshall head.......

Can this page just be a big Sunn lovefest? I got the Solarus yesterday and found the 215B buried in the amps and cabs at a local shop a couple days before.

Never played thru a Sunn but the looks alone make me want one. :omg: It would be wasted on me tho, I can't play my little Princeton over 4 without pissing off the neighbors.

This.... I feel ya. City livin' is sad sometimes. I can't play my amp in my apartment at all. I rigged a little tube radio tuner into my patchbay though, so I play through that a bunch. The tone is weird though. Heh.

That's a great workaround. But yeh, I can see how tone may suffer. I rarely get anywhere near the natural breakup of my amps, it's all thru OD and fuzzzz pedals at lower volumes. But there are the rare times when all the neighbors are out, then I open the gates of fuzz hell... :animal:

Yeah, those lil tubes don't sound so good when you push 'em. Hahhahaa. I couldn't resist patching it in though. It does make an awesome pre-amp for my turntables though.
