W.H - Oh hell yeah. The Strategy 400 I have now has the same power amp section. I'm scaling down to one cab so I wanted something that could do most of the watts on one channel instead of having to use two.

Depending on the tone you're going for, don't be afraid to shy away from some guitar heads, too. Marshall clones sound badass with a bass and distortion (see Kilmister, Lemmy).

Yarb. It's really kinda of odd. I was taking lessons from when I was 14-17. He lived down the road from me (still down the road from my 'rents). I would just pack my bass up and walk down to Trip's house. I never knew he was anything more than an average bass player. It's like I'm Luke and his Old Ben the Hermit. I still just bring my gear over and noodle with him from time to time. Total bad ass and cool as hell. The most appropriate name of all time because he's a fucking trip.

There's a Butcher at my local GC for $300. I was there when the guy was trading it in (I told him he was going to get ripped off, oh well), and it is pretty clean. If you type in 98296 for the zip on the used site you'll come across it, to whoever may be interested in that...

So, I scored that Avatar 2x12 today. It is pretty beat up cosmetically, but sounded the fuckin balls when I tried it out. Since it was so beat up, I talked down from 200 to 160. Which is funny, because I don't actually give two shits what mah gear looks like, as long as it sounds good. Now gotta sell my 4x10.

i know i asked this before but i forget which thread...... might start a new one in a hinute.... how many mics am i looking at if i want to do a decent recording of my drummer? like, solo'd with us and a click through headphones?

1 kick, 1 snare, 2 over the cymbals at the most barebones.

yeah, i've never spent any real time recording or mixing, so simpler is better. might take a class at the local community or music arts college in recording just to get a base knowledge to play with.

so much EASIER with electronic drums and samplers and computer based loops.

+1 Kick, Snare 2x Overheads.

Any mics will get you by if you just looking for rudimentary monitoring,...but if you want to get decent recordings; do yourself a favor and get decent mics.

SM57s are fine for snare. Use a stand,...forget clamps,...brackets,...just get a stand.

Get decent condenser mics for the overheads. Ronald McDigipimp uses some form of AKG small diaphragm condensors. I think they are middle of the road mics. He experiments with mounting in a Y or X-Y pattern. He also has a bracket that allows him to mount two microphones on one stand. Get sturdy stands for the overheads.

I'd go with an Audix D6 or a Shure Beta 52. Mount the kick mic on one of those short stubbly mic stands.

So now that I have a 2x12 cab, I'm going to go back to running my amp at full power, and I'm going to try using an attenuator. I got one of those old Tom Scholz power soaks really cheap. I'm gonna try that out first and see how I like it. If I think I'm going to stay that route, then I'll drop decent money on a THD Hot Plate or Weber MASS unit.

cool. good infos. i have a Shure Beta52 for my bass at home, want a second one for my cab at practice and i've used mine for the drummer's kick. seems to work well. i don't know SHIT about mics, so it's good to hear some model types. i have a SM57 and a Beta58 i think. i always get those two mixed up. the 57 is the longer thin one that is for instruments and the 58 is the dome top that is for vocals? or am i getting those backwards? i have one in Beta and one in SM.

oh jia, another thing is without doing a drummer partition is there any way to get decently isolated stuff with everybody playing? it's not a huge room, but when i use the Beta52 on my cab i get bass LOUD and really quiet drums and vocals and keys. is there a way to do something similar on the drums? the keys are coming out a laptop running Kontakt, so it's easy to record that midi and the vocals can go to the computer before hitting the PA, so that would be easy to record on it's (mostly) own track. for vocals is there a better isolating mic to pick up predominantly just vocals?

it might be unrealistic or too expensive, but it'd be neat to have at least somewhat isolated instrument tracks even for quick idea/room recording/jam outs.

Yep, SM57 is the long thin guy (mostly for amps) but actually is pretty good for vocals, bass amps, etc.

Try putting the bass and guitar cabs all the way in the corner FACING the wall. So basically a 45, 45, 90 degree triangle in the corner. Then try mic'ing it up. This is prolly the best without getting into partitions and all that good stuff.

yah, it's just me and the singer playing keys for all the Non Drum Noise Making Things. but her PA speakers are on swivel friendly stands so it'd be easy to point them around.

if me and her are loud enough for everybody to hear well enough to play off each other (giggety), does that mean that there's going to be way too much bleed through on the drum mics?
