Richard Devine is pretty pimp. i am befuddled by his setup, just because i know *I* couldn't keep track of that much stuff. i don't understand rolling that, but it's impressive.

also, just pre-ordered a GR-1. won't ship till February or March, but i am EXCITE.

I was thinking about this not to long ago, wanted to program a take on the Boss SL-20 Slicer that worked off euclidean patterns. Either single, two stacked, or two in tandem, each controlling one half of the signal (Low-pass/High-Pass). Then it would go to a splitter with a choice of Mono, Split pattern/pan, or Stereo with each Euclidean sequencer going to their respective output. Then Wave selectors, and depth, and and and...

...and you can see why that never went anywhere.

I mean, since it's going to be digital you can get it down to 5-6 knobs, one button, and two switches: a depth Knob, sequencer selection button, three knobs for the Euclidean sequencer controls, and the two switches for the mode and out selection. I guess you can add a secondary layer of controls with the button and a knob turn, things like In Volume to push the filters and Out volume to compensate for Volume loss. (Edit: and separate tap multipliers for the two sequencers.)

This is why I am glad I only have the programming side down and not the digital platform/any soldering experience. It would consume me. :snax:
Writing this down made me get off my butt and start making a prototype patch on audulus to see if it's even worth it. Will report later. :snax:

Now if you kept it in software you could have all the options.

Sounds like a fun idea though, do report!

lol. fucking. labeling on Make Noise stuff. blegh. i keep thinking i put the Wogglebug in upside down because i read the Id as an upside down Pi.

is it a bitch to get usable SLOWER stuff out of the Woggle?

Spent the last hour and a half building it on Audulus and I love it! :!!!:

I'll record a short video of it, hoping that the screen capture feature doesn't bug out like it has been (on audio of all things). There are some tweaks I want to do, but they are more complicated and don't change much of how it sounds.

Okay, so here it is being used with a dead simple monosynth running a straight up sequence. Next demo I'll use a guitar, once I have refined the design more.

From recording this video I can tell that I need to do a few things:
1) Get rid of the offsets, not really noticeable/needed
2) Get rid of the Q control, didn't do much
3) Make the Attack and Release mathematically related to the tempo to avoid dead settings.
4) Integrate the Mix control into the module (I had it as an outside Crossfade)
5) Refine Tempo range/knob curve (Log curve?)
6) Push the level past unity.
7) Make it stereo

Maybe instead of Resonance I can have a control that changes the filter separation, from opposite ends of the spectrum to overlapping. :snax:

Ummm, I guess this counts as modular because I'm using Audulus. ;)

EDIT: Fixed most of the issues, tying the attack-release into the tempo turned it into a shape control. Cool! Also makes it sound killer! :!!!:

Richard Devine is excellent live, btw. I saw him a couple of years ago, he played with a 12U case + a Nord drum I think and something like an Eventide H9 (or something similar) and he has a great set, with very different tracks and good progression between them. All from the modular. I've seen a number of other great modular performances but he wins in terms of sound diversity and coherence...

And he's a very nice person, too. Always ready to talk about his music or his gear before/after the show.

A lot of the "modular stars" seem very taken by the eventide pedals.
That's what I gathered from interviews and videos. There's a lot to be said about the person who continually embarks on journeys into sound and shows no signs of ego or jadedness. Richard seems equally curious in every endeavor.
