Can't chips just be, like, made again? Reverse engineering and whatnot? Granted I know nothing about chips, but it seems like we should be able to do that at this point, no?

My guess is that it's not worth it. Mostly components are made for other applications than guitar effects pedals and don't need "mojo". It's like transistors, on each data sheet there is a huge list of other trannies that can be used as replacements. Most of which will not sound good in a pedal.

They can be, but the entry fee to set up a chip fab is huge - hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. You'd have to move a LOT of chips to recoup that loss, or charge $50 apiece. There are a few companies that still make BBDs (like Behringer through Coolaudio) but they apparently don't have the mojo of the old Panasonics.

Yeah and most if not all of the Behringer chips are SMD. But I guess in this application it would work to go SMD. Think its neat that they're using full size chips though now

The new 104M is also SMD. Sounds still very good to me. I made a photo of both, 104Z (left) and 104M:

So i don't care what it is as long i like the sound.

Don't care what they're made of or by whom as long as they're priced accordingly and sound good.

I got the MF Ring last week and it's pretty awesome. I've been using my Devi Peep to control the expression. Pretty gnarly.

Really makes me want to start an Ex-Models type band.

Let's do it.

But some Blood Brothers in there too.
