Enlightenment awaits. Forgot to mention that some of the later ones had a sliding bridge pup as well.

I've always thought of them as one of the first bass guitars, as opposed to an electric bass...if that makes any sense. IMO they're designed for the way Chris Squire used/es his, as an additional (for lack of a better way of putting it) 'lead' instrument. McCartney used his that way on the later Beatles recordings; Chris's playing in Yes is obvious, as is Geddy's and more recently Justin Chancellor in Tool.

Could be the piano like quality of their sound which appeals to a great many people.

I had to post this again I LOVE this bass
I just wired it in stereo.
Cheap and it sound a lot like a Rick but I can also get a plethora of other sounds out of it. neck pickup with the tone rolled all the way down is SEX :omg:
The only drawback is that this one is 11.5 lbs and thats pretty light for a T-40.

Rickenbacker bass guitars, primarily the 4001 which has been replaced by the 4003. Used by the people mentioned before. I want one. I want one BAD.

There was a Musicians Friend sale on blue Rick 4003s, did you guys see it?

I'm grateful to be in a state of non-instrument GAS. I'm happy with what I've got right now, don't need anything else. There are things I'd still like to have, but not enough to buy them.

Maybe if I found a cheap T-40 I would get it. And...I am constantly on the hunt for Yamaha SBVs. But that's more of a "I like this so much I would be absolutely crushed if it were ever broken beyond repair/stolen so I'm going to hoard a stockpile/preserve it for the future" situation.

The GC here in town has had an early 80's b 'n M T-40 hanging on the wall for about three months, but they want $400 for it w/o case 'cause it's "...vintage...". I'd love to get it but I'm not paying that price for it. They also had a seafoam green (one-off custom color) Ric 4001 last year - MINT condition, with ohsc, for $1100 out the door. I don't understand their pricing a lot of the time.
