Isn't the volume affected on an transistor amp when you change the impedance?

decrease impedance = increase output generally

So if I had a SS amp rated at 8 ohms output, it would in principle still be safe to run a 4 ohm cab with it?

generally its okay but u are putting added stress on the power amp. If its designed not to really run below 8 ohms then that would be the case

I like it, lots!

that looks AMAZING. sounds amazing too.

how much do they go for?

Work sucked. Came home and played for the first time in like a week. Bonus points for getting to actually crank the shit out of both my amps (funny, I know) and scream my head off while doing so. I feel better

Also been considering picking up an octave pedal again now that I have two amps. I was thinking that running octave into only one amp would sound good when running two amps. Anybody doing this?

Yeah it sounds awesome to do it that way.

I've also been running a 12" bass speaker with an 8" guitar speaker which also gives a lot of dynamacy

yes, yes... *rubs hands together*

regular signal > dirty amp
octave signal > clean (or cleaner) amp with a 1x15 bass speaker

yes....

......... you know you want to do it.

tried evan's SC clone. Came off kind meh to me. The bass seems a bit stuffy. You guys are right that its more or less a distortion then a fuzz but it didnt jive with me much. I guess I could try playing at a louder volume but as of now its meh

I desperately need to replace the tubes in my Electric amp. Has anyone ever tried 6ca7s in place of el34s? They have piqued my interest.

conky wrote:Thanks for the positive feedback on that demo clip guys. I appreciate it. It seems like I'm finally getting to do the shit I hear in my head with a band who is into the same style of music I am.

If I had a Model T (even the reissue) offered for my Redbear plus some cash I'd do it in a heartbeat. I know it isn't supposedly anything like the originals but I kinda liked the cleans on the combo I tried once and wouldn't mind having one to fuck around with. Stupid me you say? Well, I have two Redbears sitting around collecting dust so I would be cool with letting one of em go. :poke:

I would buy a Red Bear in a heart beat if you are inclined to sell.

I run 6ca7s in my JCM 800 and love it way more than el 34s. It adds balls to the low end of my amp while keeping that Marshall character intact. I don't think my tone is all that special or anything but whenever I play out with that head, I always get compliments on it. I doubt I will ever run el34s in any amp I own again.

I just might end up letting a Redbear go. I'm supposed to be meeting up with a guy this weekend to buy my 60 watter, but I'll probably end up selling the 120 watter to fund a vinyl pressing soon. If I do I'll let you know for sure.

yes I have and they are really nice. I have used the JJ 6ca7s and i love them. Also to my knowledge Conky has used the EHX 6ca7s and he likes them as well. Drop in replacements with just a rebias

Mhmmmm. Love em.

I haven't made any clips but it sounds amazing!

Here's 1776's demo tho, give you a general idea of the sounds within. Oh, I'm about to reply to that PM as well.

Yeah, LaoWiz is my absolute fave in terms of aesthetics. He has a weathered + etched DBA + old school EHX vibe going on, shit looks NICE! His builds and prices are excellent to boot. About to set him loose on a handful of new builds and a couple enclosures to use for rehousing :thumb:

AngryGoldfish wrote:Sweet. I saw a load of his stuff for sale. They looked great. I'll have to look up that pedal; seems interesting.

Yeah, I bought his Foxx Tone Machine clone from that B/S/T sale. Lucky I snagged it quick cuz some dude swooped in and bought nearly everything he posted all at once.

Aaron Turner posts on here? What is his screen name? I need to know cause I'm an Isis fanboy and all that jazz.

I used to do this. I'd run my effects into my Soldano and then run my JCM800 dry. It seemed to maje the effects seem a little more spread out. The sound was just fuller that way to me. The other guitarist in my band needs to get another head so I can run a dual rig again.

dude insisted on making it a package deal with a cheesy ampeg bedroom amp and an odb-3, wich I like. got a good deal but need to unload that amp now, running out of room! yeah I know, first world problems and all that

Needs some work, a couple parts are not original and there's some funky shit going on with the electronics, should be an easy fix.

Anybody recognize the model? cant find a serial # on it.

Edit: fixed wonky wiring and its a XB-20 with an extra pickup that appears to be factory done. Pup covers are falling apart but it all works now, just needs some new tuners as one is gibson and one is bent. may try to throw some alumitones in there, but it sounds pretty fucking good as is. oh yeah, still have to clean/replace the pots, a little wiggleing makes it go from good to fucking awesome, needs to be fucking awesome all the time.

t-rey wrote:Random and potentially irrelevant question. Say you wanted to put a small bass rig together that can be used for guitar as well. Would you got for an old Acoustic (135/150) or a Sunn Beta Lead at $250-$300?

Beta for sure. Once I get some money, I'll pick up a spare. I love mine.

Also, Conky, I still want that 120. Just waiting for my last W2 and, taxes permitting, I'm snagging it. Fingers crossed.
