we stayed with one of their guitar players when we played in vancouver. super cool dude, by the way. we listened to their record and talked gear for a while. i think i remember him saying that at that time they played and recorded with a dual rectifier, which you can see in that clip and i think he said the other guitar player had a newer orange head. obviously not what he's playing there, but it might be what that recording was made with. great band. i really wish they could come here. dude said one of their band members had some legal troubles that meant he couldn't cross the border.

I've heard of this happening before with bands in Europe and America. They can't cross the borders due to legal reasons. And sometimes it's just for getting caught pissing on a public building or something like that and catching a bobby on an off-day. But yeah, I just bought their record and will download through the mighty bandcamp. Love that website. It makes accessing music so easy.

It's REALLY hard being in a band in Canada and trying to get to the States for shows even if you don't have legal issues. It got to the point where me and my buddies had to travel in separate cars to get over the border and meet up at the show to play.

it can be pretty difficult coming from here trying to get over there too, though i don't think it's as hard. it's kind of hit or miss. sometimes it's a piece of cake and sometimes you can get turned down for seemingly no good reason and can't do anything about it. i've always had pretty good luck, but it's been surprisingly painful most times coming back into the US. what a bunch of dicks those people are. i fucking live here and they make it impossible. last time they acted like we were going to have pay all this money and shit because we were a band. they searched the van, made us wait for hours. we had done everything legit and above board and they were such assholes.

it used to be very easy, then it got hit or miss, and now it's nearly impossible (from here to the US anyways) as a band.
Man oh man, I can't tell you how many times our van was searched. The last time, before we started going over separately... they told us if we were caught in the same vehicle again, they'd "keep us" for "12 hours" and we'd be banned etc...
a couple of my buddies have been banned from going over because they went over as a band with their gear. I remember the one time, literally 10 border guards surrounded our car and were yelling all these random orders at us, we sit inside the building for like 3 hours, they interrogate all of us, Then they say my one buddy said we were selling t-shirts, which later we found out he didn't say that and the border-guard just made it up.
I just don't get it, any money we would have made (if any) probably would have gone to food/gas while we were there anyways.

To clarify as well.... : none of us did drugs, had drugs or alcohol or anything like that, no criminal records, all born in Canada.

Bison BC's trailer of gear apparently smells SO TERRIBLE that border guards at the US opened it, gagged, and sent them on their way after they merely glanced in.

So B.O. is the answer. Always the answer.

thank god/satan/deity for a facebook friend of mine who just spams all these bands playing, i'm too busy to keep track of every place in town.

Awesome! I was never into High on Fire until seeing them with Mastodon. Seeing them play is a really cool experience - you know you are seeing something legendary at work. At the show I was at they played at like 7 or something really early like that, but destroyed like they were headlining. After that I was sold and have been a fan ever since.

Fuck. Yes. What rig were you using for this?

Here is what you should do next. You should get this band going. Then play a show in Wilmington. I will get you super drunk.

This is why we get along.

Random and potentially irrelevant question. Say you wanted to put a small bass rig together that can be used for guitar as well. Would you got for an old Acoustic (135/150) or a Sunn Beta Lead at $250-$300?

Beta Lead. I regret selling mine, used it for bass and guitar. The only Sunn amp that interests me after having a few.
If the 135's/150's sound anything like the 450's/370's, that would also sound cool for bass AND guitar.

My vote is still on Beta Lead though, really liked mine.

370/450 or Beta Lead/Colisseum, something like that, would sound totally fine. try and find a used a nice used 2x15 or something like that too, that would rock.

Damn man, I would be, and I think I'm close to you but this week has been kinda crazy gear wise.
Hopeully tomorrow I'll have an 80's Kramer bass in hand, aluminum neck. Plan is to try out the alumitone bass pups in it.
Today I got the reconed speaker back from Phil in kent. Ended up costing $65 and he said the part with the magnet had started to come seperated as well as the speaker cone. He sorted it all out and its basically a brand new speaker. Cool guy and he'll talk your head of if ya let him. The guy is definitely passionate about speakers. Pretty happy with the result and its definitely cheaper than new so I'll throw a link to his site out there http://www.theloudspeakerstore.com/ I'd still like to learn to do it myself as the parts seem fairly cheap. Best thing about him was when he tested tony's 18 in front of us and pronounced it to be fine, he recommended a fix to the cab and after some reglueing that thing sounds better than ever.
