Very accurate.

Not true. I would, most people I know who listen to the heavies would.
I rarely listen to Sunn.
Now I need to find a fallout shelter because I know I'm about to get pelted.

I like Goatsnake, but they're relatively indistinguishable from most of the other bands in the Spirit Caravan/Witchcraft/Wo Fat vein. They're a "well-known" band because of Sunn (this is true of pretty much every Anderson/SOMA project except for Khanate, probably, for better or worse).

A) I appreciate the use of quotation marks when using the terminology "well-known"
B)Yes, there are butt-tonnes of bands doing that. You listen to that shit, I listen to that shit, but I still feel like out of the hundreds, if not thousands of bands churning out 0-3-5-6 4:20 riffage every year, they still stand above the rest.
Moments like the end of The River or Trower are fucking triumphs of arrangement and while they still dole out the tropes and familiar trimmings, they pull punches with them and do it in a manner that is actually musical, as opposed to riff by numbers.
C)Khanate fucking rule. It may not be a bad thing if as many people were into them, but I know what you're saying there.
Anyway, this is the unpopular opinions thread for a reason.

I definitely remember hearing Sunn being described as 'Greg from Goatsnake's new thing' when they first started to get repped a lot here. I mean that was from that niche crowd of about 25 people who went to doom shows back then but yeah. And Sunn was the band that made me actually go back and listen to Goatsnake but I am and always have been a poser who is late to everything.
A few years later I made the connection that it was the same XGREG ANDERSONX from ENGINE KID and was fucking stoked.
Also wanna clear up: have never owned a blues traveller record in my life. All I know about them is fat dude likes harmonicas and guns.

As much as I like Sunn O)) and Engine Kid and even Goatsnake they all still pale in comparison to Thorr's Hammer.

because harmonics are horrid nasty filthy dirty disgusting things and guns are easier to trace back to you than nabbing an axe out of someone's yard, burning it and tossing the head in a body of water.
