I've sat the last couple of years out and been like that street urchin, looking in through the window from the snow.
This is my first year because I feel like I've gotten to know a few folks around here, and nobody has told me to fuck off yet, some people have actually given me counsel when I've been having a tough time and have really lifted me up out of a shit place.
I'd like to give what little I can back.

But the asshole in me wants to be that relative that nails the perfect thing for my stalkee and turns around to their asshole sister in law and sneers, while saying, "that's right Billy, that's the last one in existence, and the only one anyone has seen for 400 years. GO PLAY IN THE MUD WITH IT!"
I have high hopes.

I don't think anyone is necessarily coming across as a dick. I know we can be protective of our little corner of the internet. It's natural. I just don't want anyone to feel like they have to pay their dues or something. I also don't want to punish people for having a life, even if I don't. It kinda tore me up to have to say no to anyone but I'm a big ol' softy and a pushover. I'm assistant manager at work and when I'm supposed to be getting on to someone I'm way too nice about it. I'm all "do you want a cigarette while we talk about this? Is there anything I can do to help you?"

It sucks when I get legit pissed at someone though. They take it way more personally than if I were an asshole all the time.

If you want to frame it like that, then it does sound like a cool kids club. I joined this to make the community a better place. I am going to dip into my xmas fund to do this, meaning less for someone else in my immediate friends and family group. You make a valid point, no argument from me. My intent wasn't to argue for a cool kids club, more of a participating kids club. I should clarify that I was thinking more of the sub 100 post guys that neon's weeding out anyway.

Panic Prone has made a valid point in saying that it might make sense to check for people's post count in the last year. I for one haven't been participating much in the last year, and am probably hard to stalk, despite being on here for a while. Of course it doesn't make sense to change the rules as you go along, but this might be a good idea for future instalments of the Santanic Potlatch.

Eh, I mean I've posted plenty in the last year but I'm still going to be really difficult to stalk because I just don't post about gear that much so, I mean, if I can participate I think community members who have been intermittent with posting but have been infected with holiday cheer can. That's what the wish list is for, just be really vague so you're still surprised haha!

So will there be a thread where people can write stuff like allergies, food preferences (vegetarian, etc.), etc. ?
I always add a few stupid snacks to packages I send internationally and this one should have even more but not everyone can safely eat everything .

Yeah there'll be a wishlist thread for that kind of stuff. No point starting one til assignments are handed out though.
