Neanderthal hooked me though.
And ST. So good.
Yeah.
I first heard Torche around the time Neanderthal was coming out at Dudefest in Indianapolis back in 2008. They ended the night with "Meanderthal" and a slew of guests bashing on floor toms. It was deafening and felt like the world would soon end. It was incredible. That's really what hooked me.
Coincidentally, Dudefest 2008 introduced me to a ton of new bands that year. Ghostlimb, Graf Orlock, Capsule. Incredible lineups the three years I went. Portraits of Past reunion. Young Widows. Kylesa. Lots of male nudity and crust punks everywhere. Drinking Jameson in a parking lot and chasing with PBR and PB&J sandwiches. Pooping at Hardees (or Carls Jr). Dumpiest hotels.

That's why people like them.
It's ok to have fun.
Yep. I really only like In Return as far as their records go because it's the closest they get to the parts of Floor that I adore, but mostly Torche are just sludgy Foo Fighters, and that's a good thing to have exist.
If anything is going to convince you that they are rad it'll probably be Tarpit Carnivore:

So Scissorfight is going to Roadburn to sing them the song of my (New England) people. I am super fucking hyped, because these dudes inexplicably didn't get massive/missed the "doom/stoner revival wave" for whatever reason.
This song came out in '96, for reference.

And Come to Grief is also going to be there.

Y'all peep that Dead Hand/Shroud Eater split? This shit rules hard.
So that's why Conky took it off of the deadhand bandcamp!
Also you're all a bunch of rock gods now and i'm so stoked for y'all.

I am insanely jealous of you.
I haven't heard the new guy yet but he seems cool enough from interviews I've read?
Also, happy to hear things are going well for those of you actively band-ing!

So the new Ep they did is a little more straightforward and less on the trippy end of the spectrum, vocally (they no longer have a dude who got a masters writing about acid behind the mic, after all), but it's still fun and he fits the aesthetic/does a fine job with the older stuff.
We played with Shroud Eater at WVRM Fest in Jacksonville last night and they blew me away. Jean was running a Pharaoh stacked with a Quantum Mystic into a JDM800 and Mike Scheidt's old Matamp . It was the most crushing tone I have ever heard. High mud cut mixed with the huge lows of the Matamp ruled hard.

Still sounds rad, street cred intact.
