I checked the Swedish pedal market today, and it has apparently gotten waay better since I moved out of there. Right now there are listings for a Koma BD101 for 140€, which I've wanted since forever, a Mountainking Behemoth (120€) and a Megalith(200€), a Dr.s Cosmichorus (160€) and a Boss PS-2 for 80€. It's usually all boring stuff with the occasional vintage rarity that is way overpriced anyway, but of course it got a teeny bit interesting when I left...

See, this is of great interest to me. I'm hoping at some point to work out a way to use noise sources, mixing and asdr to allow real-time morphing of guitar "personality" without resorting to synthesis or mimicry.... Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm more interesting in adapting certain aspects of, say, the attack or decay characteristics of woodwind instruments, without per se trying to ape a sax or flute. IDK, maybe that's just another kind of synthesis, and I'm too stupid to understand it. I do know I hate the sound of synthesized saxes, but I also like the sound of saxy sounding fuzz like the Basic Audio Zippy and PTD Roto thangs.

Something like the Sandstorm could be really useful for this purpose, but I think I would want more specific control over attack/decay characteristics and even finer control over noise characteristics and mix.

Now that I'm headed towards delay/reverb satiety, I'm going to focus my tone experimentation time on this problem with a combination of Pigtronix Philosopher King, Rochambeau Musical Apparatus Crustacean, and Toadworks Enveloope; then mix in dirt, octave/pitch and filter to taste. The new edition of the Penny Pedals Radio DLX could prove helpful in this pursuit as well, and a Copilot Caracol Maxx'd. Should be a fun journey into Winter. As always, love to hear how you get along with your own explorations....

I think thinking in parallels might help you in your search Dandolin. Maybe somekind of envelope or pedal controled blend between two sources to get the harmonic content of the guitar and the dynamics of a second path with a compressor or something afterwords? I think the listed pedals are really a step in the right direction though. Like a guyatone slow gear thing before a penny radio on one side and the fuzz or normal guitar on the other? I dunno if I know what I am talking about, haha. You'll find it.

The sandstorm is really limited in it's envelope; it is a very on/off kinda thing with the sens basically just controling the trigger. Ther is no real swell or release to it. It is just on as long as the signal is high enough based on the sens level. I think my problem with it is that I just never see how I could really use it in a live setting just playing guitar. It just wouldn't add enough to really justify a spot when trying to make an efficient pedal board. In a noise or synth kinda setup where there is more focus on the sound, it probably has more place but I feel like the effect would be lost in a band live mix. It could be a great studio shaper though. I haven't ran it into a compressor yet though...might be intersting.

Thanks for the thoughts man--particularly the parallel processing part, which sounds right to me. This is a cool puzzle to work at and I'm sure even "failure" will bring something interesting....

Yeah, hearing it in stereo and then learning about its non-latching ramp up function really did me in. I gotta sell some shit and get one.
