Again, that depends on the person. Y'all can get defensive about your expensive habits all you want, but that doesn't negate the snooze-fests that I have personally witnessed. Some people use that shit as a substitute for songs and ideas and shit, that's all.Strange Tales wrote:Um, there is a lot more to modular than that.
"You have too much money and free time" is not much of an insult, I'll concede that...D.o.S. wrote:Wait, wait. 2016 the year of the UG burn?
Sure, because bad/lazy/unoriginal music sucks no matter what technology you use to make it. Modular fetishism is the current forefront of that, and ten years or so from now there will be a new thing.D.o.S. wrote:Sure, but to piggyback on that again -- like, if this was four years ago we'd be talking about Doom in the same vein. "buy shitty modern day Orange and as many cabs as you can, tune low and just play Sweet Leaf slower and slower." It takes as much ability to do that as it does to piece together a modular and get it rolling to the point where you can be like "hey it's a song watch me check my iPhone while it plays to you."
I've seen shows of people twiddling pedals for 30 minutes to feedback, way too many of them for my own good. Most of them were goddamned awful, but then there were some that managed to coax an incredibly captivating atmosphere resulting in a performance that was enjoyable. Why I am bringing this example is because I see no fucking difference between a board full of pedals and a modular set up. We've all spent hundreds and hundreds on effects, some of them which we only end up using for that one 2 second sound in that one song we jacked out in 15 minutes. Don't blame the nail for the hammer's mistake, at the end of the day they are just tools. (and when tools use tools we are not getting anywhere...)John wrote:Sure, because bad/lazy/unoriginal music sucks no matter what technology you use to make it. I just don't see what's wrong with calling bullshit on bullshit! I can only call out one category of shit at a time or my fingers will get tired. If people get upset, well maybe they secretly know they are guilty...
Depending on how it's used, I agree except that the user interface is different. A board full of pedals and a guy who just strums one note, sure.Inconuucl wrote:...I see no fucking difference between a board full of pedals and a modular set up.
Hey now speak for yourself, I won't have a pedal on my board unless I use it with significant effect in more than a couple of songs. I don't ride one-trick ponies.Inconuucl wrote:We've all spent hundreds and hundreds on effects, some of them which we only end up using for that one 2 second sound in that one song we jacked out in 15 minutes.
