He's gonna be a producer/creative consultant-y dude.
But the movie's gonna suck.

A lot of that is money. Movies are stupidly expensive in the first place, then you have to convince people to go out and see it. Remakes, even with the hate that usually comes with them, circumvent that problem pretty well.
It's like the record industry pre-internet. So many weird bands were signed because the one big record would cover all the losses. Movies are kind of like that, but the fiscal gamble is way higher.

Movie idea:
In every reflective surface what we are actually looking at is an alternate reality. They are identical, or almost so. One day a person (the main character?) notices a very slight difference in what his reflection is doing as he catches a glance of himself reflected on the windows of a car he passes on the street. His awareness of this difference, and his suspicion of this alternate reality lead him to begin making different choices, and acting in different ways. These small changes ultimately spread across the world like the butterfly effect, causing the realities to diverge, and threatens to destroy the tenuous balance of natural laws. The only way to prevent the destruction of the world is for the two realities to become one. This saves the world, however in so doing the lives that people had lived since the divergence began - those small but profound differences - is lost. The film would focus on the snatches of these characters lives, terrible, and beautiful that changed, and the loss of these changes, and the sacrifice and salvation each found in that.
Maybe it would be stupid, but I just thought of it this minute, and I have never seen anything like that before.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0289879/Although your idea has the potential to be much more interesting. Kind of Adaptation-y.

Hmmm, I've seen that. Good movie. The relation didn't really occur to me. I think it's different enough to be original if it was done right.
In either case I'm glad you like the idea
Not that it would ever be made
I suppose if I wanted to I could try to write a book or something with the idea. But that's such a massive project, and I have tried writing books before. Never finished writing one.

You might have sold it as a spec script if Plymouth Rock hadn't gone under...
