You should just get a couple of Ladik 4HP modular to line level adapters (enough for 8 channels) and no mixer will ever clip again...

Almost all audio gear is designed for line level and even when they have lots of headroom tons of modular inputs at the same time will be too much. There's no way around that.

i'm getting to be afraid that you're right. urf. i have the case coming in PACKED, so don't know what to ditch for 8 hp. but might have to do that.
vidret wrote:can't you just reduce it by lowering the output of the VCA and boosting on the mixer to get the volume back up?

Generally you'd want a hotter signal coming in and then reducing the input to get a good sound/noise ratio (or whatever it is called), but in this case make sure nothing is distorting along the way.
i have some stuff that doesn't need a VCA, like Rings and BIA that i kinda need to use without running them through anything. so..... that works for things that DO need to go through a VCA?

was just playing with Troika, Rings, BIA and uBraids. Troika is fine each output, but when it's the Mix Out it distorts occasionally, BIA distorts at any setting that uses Fold, Rings just peaks all the damn time and uBraids is random depending on the waveform.

i have that Focusrite getting here tomorrow, i was going to just send it back, but i might open it up just to see how it does. Musey says it works for him. but i did really want a mixer/interface.

Dusty has a Soundcraft he swears by, might try one of those, if it doesna work, then go with the line level module thing.

shit is so frustrating. i just want to make noiiiiiises.

An alternative would be to make a bunch of cables with fixed attenuation (maybe even make them 1/8" to 1/4") with a resistor in there.

This may be incorrect...

Would the Bastl Ciao help? Quad Line Out and Headphone out in 5HP

i think the Ciao mixes the two channels? and just has a stereo out for the 4 inputs? but thanks!

for Modules, the Ladik seems right. small size, right amount of ins/outs.

hurm. does anyone sell a little box that takes in hot signals and changes them to line level? modded cables sounds neat but.... i dunno. i mean. ideally would be a mixer that is okay with modular level. if not, i'd prefer to have something in the way always plugged up. i would LOVE the output routings to be semi permanent.

Danno did a little 8 in/8 out box that has 1/8 on one end, 1/4 on the other. LOVE it.

does someone make something like that?

like a DI, but with 8 or so inputs?

like, not a fan of Behringer, but would this work -

lol. right? bass, some pedals, a Digitakt. START FRESH AGAIN.

naw. the Ladiks seem like the safest/easiest bet. ordering now.

thanks Osci!

The Ladik modules are passive so you can put them in a small box and leave it out of the modular...

The top row has 8 of them, but I'd obviously adding more as I need once I do start getting stuff. :idk:

Attenuverter's aren't gonna function as VCA's. They're going to give you a constant level based off what you have that knob turned to and that's all. VCAs are going to give you a lot better control and variety of about everything.

EG: You can't use an envelope on an oscillator's sound with an attenuator. You'll need VCA so you can do Oscillator -> Input, Envelope -> CV In.

also, yesssssss. Quadra Expander got in this morn. only spent about an hour playing with it and SO GOOD.

I thought the Quadratt served as both Attenuator and Attenuverter. I'll go back to the drawing board.
