I use the Neil Peart Shirikashi oak 747s and they fit right with me. I don't get so much shock. Bigger sticks likea 2B might help too where you don't have to use so much force to get a hart hit as you would from a smaller stick. Those Nova sticks are shitty. I get them for Merrick so he can bang the shit out of his kit without me having to buy a ton of sticks all the time. I can tell a huge difference in them and the Promarks. Relaxing your grip when you start to cramp will help but it feels counter-intuitive. Another thing is that I don't try to do everything with my wrist. I make my down beat come mostly from the shoulder, the "e" come from my wrist, the "and" come from my elbow and the "ah" come from snapping my pinky, ring and middle fingers closed. My blasts arent even, but I like to keep blasts with the down beat a little more accented anyway. If I want them even I just don't hit as hard on beat one. It keeps me from tensing up so much like I was before. I've found that I can do this for about 3 minutes straight with no problems now. I'm not sure how much of that has to do with me having a carpal tunnel release, but I'm sure changing up my technique has a lot to do with it.

:( Well thats not good news.... If it continues I will def go to the doctor and have it checked out then.

I'm currently using 5B's but I need something longer and a little thicker to feel balanced in my hands, like you the 747's usually are the best fit.

Depending on what I'm playing I'll use my wrist but I typically use my elbow flexion for hard hits and my fingers for faster beats (this is where french style really helps out). For blast beats its all fingers cause my OCD has to have even hits.

Looks like a combo of stretching hardcore, getting better quality sticks and doing a pre show warm up is in order to try and get this sorted. If that doesn't work looks like I'm off ot the doc.

Honestly, I believe if I had did this from the start instead of just trying to kill my drums every time I hit them I wouldn't have had this problem. Maybe you caught it in time. Luckily though, the surgery was a breeze and only took about 3 months before I could play drums again without the butt end of the stick hurting my palm. I'm 9 months out and I am back 100% and then some. I can turn a screwdriver without my wrist cramping up after 5 seconds. I put it off for the longest because I was scared but now I'm wishing I had done this 10 years ago.

Well then I'm screwed and might as well go the doc cause that's been happening for quite a while now....

Do you guys think it's worth it to post cymbals up for sale online? I've been trying to move my Paiste 2002 Classics for over a month on my local CL and only sold one (20" crash, still have 22" ride and 14" sound edge hi-hats left). Our local Craigslist is the worst for music gear, it's almost impossible to buy or sell anything good without posting in a region over an hour away. I'm used to packaging and shipping pedals, basses, guitar and amps, but never done it with cymbals before. Makes me super nervous that they're going to arrive cracked or something. I've had some good luck with moving some gear on Reverb lately, so I've been tempted to throw them on there.

Opinions? Experiences?

i've only bought cymbals but with enough bubble wrap/styrophone on the ends it should be good.

I pretty much only buy my cymbals online. but I have no preference and don't spend much on them. No one has ever told the difference between me playing a 400 dollar K custom and a Sabian B8 ride as a crash. so I normally stay in the cheaper route cause even with roadbull's talk of swiping a cymbal. I can still break them, I def don't do it as much as I used to but with the amount i play on them and the speed of which I play they take a ton of abuse. hell when I was more active in practicing with multiple bands it wouldn't be uncommon for me to break cymbals and have to replace them in 2-4 weeks.

Sucks ancient but really it does sound like you are going to have to have your wrist worked on.

I've shipped quite a few cymbals, bubble wap the hell out of them and sandwich them between two sheets of cardboard with atleast an inch of overlap on each side and you should be just fine, plus of course make sure to insure them. It seems 2002's go pretty quickly on eBay and reverb so you should have some luck.

That's why I use APX's, they are dirt cheap, come in the sizes I wanted and in a blind sound test you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between them and Paiste 2002's.

I know... I've all ready had a bunch of work done to my left wrist, might as well bite the dust and get have them both done. Luckily my mom works for a surgeon group so I can go to a doctor I trust.

I'm really good at packaging at least, so not too worried about that aspect. What both you guys said is what my instinct would be for packaging cymbals. We have a ton of used packing material at my work, I save it and use it for shipping out gear so I don't have to pay for it. I usually end up making my own custom boxes for stuff. I just put up an ad on the SF Craigslist, where I tend to sell 90% of my gear if I'm selling "locally". So I might wait over the weekend and then post it up on Reverb if they don't move. Thanks for the feedback guys.

i had the ddrum version of that but it was red acrylic. I got it as partial payment for a cab right after getting it like literally 20 mins after the guy left I sold them to a guy in my unit for 400 bucks.

I wouldn't bother, but that's me.

With Cymbals I'd say that its easily worth that, without I dunno thats a bit more than Fibes have been going for lately. The sizes are good though, and the cymbal sizes are as well.

Tough one. Ask yourself, what is the coolest aspect of this kit? The sizes that are offered on the kit? Are you into acrylic kits (check for any cracks), or Paiste cymbals? Do you just want to get everything at once and be done with it?

Just my opinion: If you like it, it's worth it. I use "used" math when balancing value to want scale. Lets say that on a good day you might find those cymbals ~$700. That makes the set about $500 if they go for the $1200, all in deal. That's actually pretty darn good. You can always fill the set out later with what you may want or need. So if the kit looks like it is in good shape, and you can get it for around that price, I would say it's not a bad deal.

Acrylics are loud, so that's cool. You don't strike me as a coffee shop tapper.

I, for one, am a HUGE fan of the Paiste 2002 line. I have that ride. I don't use it as a ride. It is a big, beautiful, bloomy crash. The ride sound itself is not to my liking. I can find you a ~$200 Paiste 2002 24" Ride all day long on GC used. That is my favorite cymbal, and would have to be one of my two cymbals if I could only have two for some reason. ThAnKs ObAmA... 15" 2002s... love em! 20-22" 2002 or other Paiste Crash, perfect.

As for the drums: I spoiled, then soiled myself last year when I bought my Ludwig kit. I had been playing 22" bass drums my whole life. I still have a few, well, three to be exact, but I really like larger(louder) bass drums. Ideally I would like a 26" bass kit for my home practice kit. My Ludwigs live at John's house. 24" bass drums have a bit more depth to them and it's a good balance of size to volume.

I rather do things local, or at least try to do things locally first. Shipping eats into any slender profits that might be cleared. I usually set a limit on how low I am willing to go. Beyond that, I just keep them on the off chance that might ever want them again. Because at some point, it's like you are losing money by selling them. The Paistes should go quickly. I might have tried to pick up your 20" crash. I dig those cymbals though. Unless you are hurting for funds, I would say hang in there, try to sell locally and sell at a minimum that still makes it worth doing. Otherwise hold on to them. Hell, I would rather give some gear away to cool people rather than sell it for next to nothing.
