This is how I feel!

Agreed.

Also, I hope the Klonopin doesn't end up being the next PLLone.

full disclosure: I do not sell Maxon products, I could care less about a pedal that I see as nothing but a Tube Screamer with a bi-polar supply.

man, I know jack shit about building pedals, but my Klon does NOT sound like a Tube Screamer - mainly in that I've always hated the bass cut of a TS, and Klon doesn't have that. I dunno. So it goes.

And it shouldn't, cause with a way better power supply it will have way more headroom.
/also has the hates for the tube screamer/

I think he's talking about the OD-820

I did mention that pedal, it is suppose to be a Klon Clone. But some of my comment was in reference to the Klon in general.

Dave Szabados wrote:I thought of the OD-820 and the Centaur as types of "high-fidelity Tube Screamers". The OD-820 perhaps shares more of the Tube Screamer's heritage as it employs dual JRC4558D chips. While I'm unsure of what the Klon uses in its circuit, company President Bill Finnegan assured me that the Centaur is nothing like the Tube Screamer so I have to presume it uses a different type of Op Amp or transistor.

So apparently we can blame this guy for helping spread the misconception that only Tubescreamers and Tubescreamer derivatives use JRC4558 opamps. "...so I have to presume it uses a different type of Op Amp, otherwise Bill Finnegan is lying and it really is just a Hi-Fi Tubescreamer." Obviously that's a paraphrase, but still

That was the first review of the Klon I've read where someone complained about the Klon coloring the tone so much. Kind of inconsistent with the whole legacy of the Klon being a "transparent" od. Nothing wrong with a certain pedal not being right for him though.

A quick search for Klon Schematics shows the Klon uses a pair of TL072 opamps. I prefer the TL072 or 5532 over the JRC4558. It would be interesting to get an OD-820 a Klon and some spare opamps and do some comparison.

I think this got about as far as the ILF Colorsound Bass Fuzz clone project.

(You know a thread's old if there's a Zounds Perspex post on the last page.)
