It's hardly the most elegant solution, but I always got by just fine with arranging the board so that my dirt switches, whether it be two pedals or an amp switch and a pedal, and even two amp switches at one point, we're just right next to each other, as close as they could be so I could hit them both at once. Always worked alright.samzadgan wrote:The only problem with running different dirt, through pedals or single channel amp with pedal and dirty channel on 2 channel amp, would be the tap dancing involved between clean and dirt tones.misterstomach wrote:Wisdom and truth spoken right there. The man knows what he's saying. I don't really use mod, per se, but delay and verb or whatever. The principle remains the same.t-rey wrote:I'd encourage you to rethink that. Some of the cooler tones I've gotten were running two kinds of dirt (blackstar amp, and Elements or some fuzz into another amp). Plus running mod and delay into one amp and the other amp 'dry' lets you get really fucking crazy with mod and oscillation and stuff while maintaining clarity from the unaffected amp.samzadgan wrote:Yeah we play down in B...the main problem i would have is that i want to run dual rig with my pedal board going to both amps...in that scenario a 2 channel amp is useless as i would only be able to use one channel and get all my dirt from pedals. I think if i played a single rig a 2 channel would be ok.Iommic Pope wrote:You guys are playing low down, right?
You could probably justify the 200, but is it going to do a perceptibly better job than the superbass in most settings.
Plus I'm willing to put dollars on the fact that when you go to record, you're gonna want that Marshall there.
The kind of music we play goes in and out of clean to distorted tones...unless what I do is one amp is set to clean and the other amp is set to distortion, and i switch amps for my clean/dirt tones...otherwise it would require some kind of sophisticated switching system that puts on the dirt pedal on the clean amp, and switch the channel on the second amp at the same time...not even sure what that would involve...?? any ideas??
also, this kind of talk is no good...i happened to walk into a music shop on the weekend...they have a big orange line up...they had a white Thunderverb 200, which had been used at a music festival last year, or early this year...and it was $2000...which is about half the price of a new one (and I could probably get more taken off as its been sitting there for so long). It looked like it had hardly beein used though when i compared it to the other amps that were reduced for the same reason (Rockerverbs) which had black marks everywhere and some scratches. Asthetically...white matamp rig + white thunderverb rig would be pretty cool...but something inside me says I would sorely regret selling the marshall.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I built a 5 channel loop box a while back and have not looked back. I set each dirt box to fairly low gain and get this thick ass rich sound I dig. Counter-intuitive, but when you look at two or more pedals as one circuit, it starts to make sense. I also have the option to go full clean, so I can do some mellow thing and get the right combination of stuff on and then go mental with one stomp.

Loop boxes are great for that kind of stuff, but I can't wrap my head around how you would build something where one switch could control seperate chains going to different amps. Cascading channels, sure, but parallel channels with seperate outs, not sure I can figure out how that'd work.

The only i can come up with is a custom pedal that switches amp and a line of pedals, has dual outs one for the amp and one for the pedals.

Yeah, for the longest time I thought this was going to be the solution I would have to look toward but it was always so damn confusing and required so much footwork.samzadgan wrote:Yeah thats what i was thinking.misterstomach wrote:Loop boxes are great for that kind of stuff, but I can't wrap my head around how you would build something where one switch could control seperate chains going to different amps. Although, after watching Brian Cook playing bass and bass synth and switching pedals on and off in Russian Circles I want to stop worrying and love the footwork.
But now that I'm into new Ampsville I think I'm letting some dirt fly. Coven, Demonking are both on the chopping block. Keeping the INFANEM 141g because of the self oscillation/gate being nutty and I'm keeping my Marsh Chapel. Much as I love the Coven I jive way more with the Pharaoh than the Black Forest so it feels somewhat superfluous. Want to look at some new modulation stuff and a different looper that lets me store loops.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
you know what...all this musing on amps and selling the marshall etc...its all because both my amps are at the tech getting repaired and im not playing my amps. I always get like this when i dont have my gear!
I should have both my amps back on saturday...which has put a smile on my face...which is quite a difficult task given what else i have going on right now...so I suspect once I pick up my babies and plug them in, all thought of changing amps will disappear like food into Al Cisneros's belly...
also...fuckin Matamp are a cool bunch! I had a nightmare with the previous tech i took my amp to, and i fucked up some stuff in it...but the new tech took pictures of eveything inside...i sent the pics to matamp (Hayden who built it) and they analysed the issue with my tech here and sorted out the issues.

Yeah man - my gas always gets way worse when I don't have access to my gear or don't have the time to play. Once I catch an hour or so to get a little bit of volume and riff, I'm reminded of why I made the gear choices I have so far.samzadgan wrote:you know what...all this musing on amps and selling the marshall etc...its all because both my amps are at the tech getting repaired and im not playing my amps. And the dudes at Matamp seem very cool.
So...I've been working on something. Do yall remember a long time ago when we had a conversation about frying gravy and it only be possible in a black mass. No? That's not surprising. Nobody should have remembered it. But the idea was always funny to me so I wrote a really serious revenge story about fried gravy and the devil. Well...the first draft is almost finished. So if a couple of you want to read through it and offer some notes for the rewrite, just let me know.

No way I can catch up with all these pages, but I'm using a Moen GEC9 with my dual channel amp. I picked it up in a trade and planned on flipping it, but I ended up keeping it because it really is an awesome piece of gear. I can set it up to do anything, route anything anywhere. No pedal dancing for me anymore

Anyone planning on going to Roadburn? Anyone been?
Usually the tickets sell out before I even know they're on sale (they're still available!), but I might be able to get my act together this time.

Definitely thinking about it. Problem being I really have to wait until January to see if I can swing it, and tickets'll almost certainly be sold out by then.

I know I'm a little late to this party, but I agree with this. However, I've noticed the Micro Pog sucks a shit ton of volume and tone away.new05002 wrote:Yea Micro POG is the best solution. Most of the analog octave stuff up or down has poor tracking. The only thing I have found that tracks well is the digital polyphonic stuff.
Also, if you don't mind using it purely for the polyphonic octave experience, you can set up the Digitech Timebender to do a way way better job of polyphonic octaves.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Bit late to the party here but I ran a dual amp setup, one dirty, one clean, with the GEC-9 - but you could use any programmable looper that has a dual signal chain like the GEC-9 or a crocodile or the Disaster Area DPC-8EZ or DPC-4EZ.
Basically I split the signal early in the chain then for the clean amp had fuzz + phase + delay etc., for the dirty amp I had an Elements set to remove some bass and pull down the volume 75% + delay etc.
So for a dirty sound I programmed the looper to put fuzz on the clean amp and nothing on the dirty amp for a blend of fuzz plus tube gain. For a clean sound I programmed the looper to have no fuzz pedal on the clean amp and turned on the Elements on the dirty amp which was set with no gain and the volume rolled way back to make the dirty sound cleanish - like rolling the volume on the guitar way back.
With a programmable looper it's just one stomp.

Saw Russian Circles and Cloakroom on Sunday.
Saw Inter Arma and Kylesa last night.
Good week for music.
Inter Arma slays live. Fucking awesome band. Kylesa played a good array of old and new. Put some Kylesa pedalboard shots up on my Instagram if anybody is interested. I'll probably post those in the General > Superstars Pedalboard thread, too.

Teaching elementary is hard. Like complete blood resurgence to penis hard.
Also, Whores tomorrow. And not the kind teacher people see after hours either. Unless you're one of us.
