Well there is the Harverstman Malgorithm bitcrusher, and Pico DSP has an overdrive/bitcrush effect, but my recommendation is of course for the Roland Bitrazer. HP/power hog yeah, but it has the most/best set of parameters/controls (bit depth and sample rate), an amazing filter, and of course all the customizing powers. I think it's easily the best crusher in euro, and just an extremely underrated module.

I think there were a few unexpected delays along the way. Nothing outrageous, and Tenkai the owner did a good job of keeping everyone informed along the way so, I’m not complaining. But, still, glad the wait is almost over!behndy wrote:niiiiiice!
was there any delay? or just expected wait time for a From The Ground Up launch?

Got Bhendy's trigger riot today and my word, is it going to be a fun tool to use.

DPO is the sound source, each oscillator has some cross FM with multiple waveforms mixed then sent to a channel of the Optomix. 4 channels of the Trigger Riot are going to the trig inputs on channels 1 & 4 on Maths and both strike inputs on the Optomix. Swells = envelope, click bits = strike. Pitch modulation coming from the SQ-1, just synced to the Trigger Riot.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Anyone have an LxD? How flexible is it as a typical VCA? Does it only do plonky bingo-type stuff, or does it sound good with longer attack/decay times, too?
I kinda need a vca with a strike/trigger input, need itbto be small...but am skeptical that the LxD has a range of usable sounds rather than being a one-trick bongo pony.

I mean, any vactrol based module will do it for you (and I guess in theory, the Pittsburgh Modular and Make Noise modules that are based off of vactrols. Maybe the MI Streams as well?). How many HP are you looking to spend?
Also I just built the Zeroscope and I should've done it sooner. Having an oscilloscope is so nice to actually see what shapes my waveforms are in. Watching Tides change in real time is a sight.

The Meng Qi DPLPG is a cheap and small alternative. Works super well for a passive module, and it pings if driven by a short trigger...Invisible Man wrote:Anyone have an LxD? Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
murrrr i wish i had the space and time to devote to building shtuff. i'm ordering a Zero off of dooder soon, would be wayyyyyy cheaper to buy a kit.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I build all of my stuff on a small end table. You don't need the most space in the world to build things, just make sure you have a window nearby so you can set up a vent to shoot out the solder fumes (unless you want the brain damage from lead huffing.).
If you don't have dick for experience with soldering, I'd say start with a through-hole kit or two at first before going SMD. When you want to try SMD, Ornament+Crime is a great start for it. I wouldn't view it as a money saving venture though. Instead of buying pre-built modules, you just start buying a ton of PCBs to build. Just view it as a fun time to make things yourself.

Thanks for this--that's all good to hear. But forgive me if I didn't catch your meaning. Can the LxD achieve longer AD times in the style of a non VCA, or is it limited to typical fast attack times like most LPGs? I don't know what you mean by 'do it for me;' haven't ever used vactrols for anything.Strange Tales wrote:I mean, any vactrol based module will do it for you (and I guess in theory, the Pittsburgh Modular and Make Noise modules that are based off of vactrols. The Meng Qi module looks cool...though having both cv and ping/strike appeals to me.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Low pass gates are basically a mix of VCA and low pass filter, with one control for both. They have a slow response rate, hence the pinging when driven with triggers, but work well with typical envelopes too. They're just not really good for fast modulations.
