Yeah Secant rules.
If you want a less-electronics-more-stringed-instruments-but-still-brutal vibe listen to BY THE THROAT.

Pretty cool. A little more dancy/rhythmic than I usually like, but thanks for the recs!

Yeah, me too, but mostly because everytime ive personally tried to incorporate a beat into music I've thought it sounded like cheesy ass. It's great to hear someone really nail it though. Thor Harris from Swans played a heap of the percussion on this is think.

Always keep an eye on Red Bull's lectures, really interesting stuff happens. I think this will give you some insight on Hecker's music.

Yeah that was in the favorite musicians talking about music thread. It's a good one.

About the rhythmic thing, I used to be like that ("my music has no rhythm") mostly because I hated big-ass kick drums, but I later realized that you can use all kinds of rhythmic structures in really interesting ways when I got more into things like Pan Sonic, Alva Noto, etc.

Ryuichi has done a bunch of amazing electroacoustic albums with him, also: fennesz, taylor deupree, etc.

Oh yeah, I'd say that most of the music I listen to has fairly pronounced rhythmic structure, actually.

So I've been working on this sort of Rasta-kraut folktronica thing about ancient structures around Britain that I've now finally finished. Contains strong elements of drO)))ne mainly made out of mutated guitar, banjo and mandolin samples. Be interesting to know what you think.

Yeah this is really good. And he is right about the getting lost in plugins and clicking the mouse all day. That is my constant battle with using my laptop. I'm trying to just create a few patches or sounds that I can do to and weed out the stuff I won't use.
Also, Hecker's dissertation is available online. I haven't started it yet but it looks really interesting:

Well, I banged out a couple of tracks onto Bandcamp a few months ago, which I shall
link to here until I can figure out how to get those damned Bandcamp tags to work. First track is made entirely from a concertina sample I recorded for my first EP, treated in various ways, mostly through Simpler in Ableton and good ol' Paulstretch. Second is more drone-folk shit.
I've also got a gig in a few weeks and currently trying to learn the finer points of playing a banjo and a Launchpad at the same time...
Earthquaker Devices are calling to me too. I think for the sort of stuff I make a Rainbow Machine and Transmisser will fit in nicely. (I use a lot of pitch-shifted and granular delays, mega-long reverb trails and filtering)
