Ehx was sick of dicking with inconsistencies with the green paint, so they made the switch to black. The early black russians(7d) were housed in the same enclosure as the bubble font with all the same innards. Revision "8" is what is commonly referred to as a "black russian". These had the later enclosures w/ true bypass and different pcb's.

You can still find the big box 7d "blacks" for half the price of a bubble, but you're probably wanting a smaller enclosure.

But yeah, as of last night:

so my shit arrived, and i can get my gear in order.

the first thing was putting together 1 of my 2 boards...this is the bigger board and what i will use for ambient, drone and weird noise stuff...

also the Muff has been modded to have a Mids control, which makes it sound something between a Pharaoh and LSTR to my ears...its really great.

the 2nd board is going to be a small one which will be my doom board...i've shown pics of that before...so nothing new with one.

Yeah I wish the sweep was wider.

I use it live on the Fake Life intro, but it's not on either of our first two records.

This is where I'm at board-wise with a new sludge-powerviolence duo... Still need a reverb or super low gain boost w/ interesting texture for the HM2 chain, something to warm up the massive dry solid state bass amp, but nothing to de-love the Swedish chainsaw. Any suggestions??? I might even try a chorus after not using one forever, I know I've still got my old (& awesome) Pearl Chorus somewhere. The Shadow Echo is great for a bunch of things, but too delay like at minimum setting for pre-amping fast parts.

Overdrive chain is pretty set, tho I'm going to try the Monarch again with the CM2 overdrive in front. Loving the new phaser! Like it enough that I'd like to try the Hardwire Chorus, Reverb, and/ or Delay. Going to keep an eye out for those used.

It's also weird that my cheapest pedals sound the best to me. Though these might be my hardest clipping distortions, maybe tightest/ chuggy-est too? Even my heaviest fuzzes clean up and can get too loose or wooly, not the GV2 or the HM2. :idk:

i don't think a HM2 knows anything about being wooly or loose
