Are they plug and play (except for a bias of course) for EL34's? What are the sonic / tonal differences between them?

yea drop in replacements for EL34s. If its a true 6ca7 it is not a pentode but a tetrode (like any ofthe KT series of tubes or 6l6s or 6v6s) so it has different construction. However they have EL34 voltage ratings (800V plate, 500V screen, 25W diss). So its kind of like a good blend of a 6L6 and a EL34. Also try out some nice Kt77s, another drop in for a El34. You could drop in 6L6s no problem 2.
I used them in Stonehenge and the newest DA120, where in the first I had E34Ls, JJs higher bias voltage 34s to mix it up a little
They took a beating in the Stonehenge and never flinched. Running them in the DA120 right now at 463V plate 30 mA, a little underbiased but since the amp is new im allowing them to settle a little before adjusting it

Gotcha, for now I'm using JJ EL34's and love the tone so I will probably hold off till they need to be changed and then try something different. Thanks for the recommendations though!
