Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps

Both look promising and I'm into the multi-powering options,...but I have a feeling these will be astronomically priced,...like M/B likes to do.

Color me tentatively interested,...but not if they are fetching a premium.

The one thing that always attracted me to the 400/400+ is the fact the M/B used rackmountable chassis. I don't quite understand why these companies continue to put heavy output transformers into heavy wooden cabinets.

Yeah,....I've been posting for them to bring back the 400+ all over their Facebook for the past 6 months. You snooze you lose Mesa Boogie.

I've been wondering,...how my sound would be if I bypassed the the SVT-CL's preamp and used my Yamaha PB-1 instead. It's a solid state preamp and I'm pretty sure the tone controls are all boost. I say this cause when I turn all the controls to zero there is no volume.

There is also quite a nice Parametric Midrange control section. I got a buddy who is really abreast on Midrange Frequencies and while plugging his Upright into that pre into a solid state poweramp (he is currently running a MarkBass something or other into an Euphonic Audio single 10 for upright duties,...good for jazz,...but he needs more volume for other projects),...he said,...cut blabidyblah frequency,....which a did and it instantly removed the boominess of the rig. Nice little option to have when dealing with different rooms.

So with that pre; would I be able to drive the powertubes harder for that compression and have more control over the overall volume output?

I also have an SVT-IIp Tube Preamp with the same controls as the CL,...but also with an EQ section. Needs fixing,...but it would interesting to try that preamp into the SVT's poweramp section as well.

Also,....Sousy; I'm loathed to push in the direction of dropping a wad on your setup,....but if you don't know the last time your amp has been serviced/retubed,...it may be worthwhile to do that. Perhaps the bias is screwy or you got a janky tube in there.

Make sure you have some discretionary income cause you can expect to spend a load if it needs to be retubed (Retubing a glass factory isn't pretty). If you have a good tube amp guru in your area,...could be worthwhile to seek out his advice.

W.H - I brought the Mesa Strategy to a tech, today. They'll be taking a look at it.

I'm flipping it, though. I need to scale down to one cab. My fEARful 15/6/1 is all I really need. Having a stereo power amp for one cab is just dumb. So my current candidates to replace it would be a Vintage Mesa Bass 400+ (which would leave me with $1,000 to GAS on pedals), one of those new Mesas up there (which I would need to skip the Faye's Her and sell my Poly-grace to get), or a Reeves Custom 225 (still missing the Poly and Faye's).

Other ringers can be thrown into the mix, though.
