Word!

Also, when you're dealing with gear that expensive, fuck trading down unless you find exactly what you want. Replacing a beloved guitar/bass that costs nearly 3K is no easy task.

WORD

I have sold 2 basses that were 300 a piece that went towards pedals (no big deal) but my ASAT is under a THIS WILL NEVER LEAVE MY COLD DEAD HANDS policy. I have taken some steep baths selling gear but never at the extent of what a high end bass costs. I would really advise you to not list it, and if you must have something new then keep one fuzz and sell off your board.

Lots of basses do not retain their values and when you sell it, its most likely gone. I convinced my bass teacher to keep his Fodera which he still has today.

There a LOTS of 5 strings that are 500 used and sound amazing. G&L Tribute, Ibanez, Dean, ect.

Tribby's are perfectly serviceable basses. Also could be able to find a 5 string Skyline for not too bad of a price.

I toyed with the idea of selling my Thumb at one point (I was gassing hard for a Fender American DLX Jazz 5er with and Aguilar OBP-1 and also a Modulus Genesis 5),...but I think I'd actually cut my thumb off and sell that before I sold my bass. I've owned it since summer of 2000. That's coming up on 12 years of constantly playing this bass,....and it's probably one of the few possessions that I've managed to keep over such a long period of time,...transition and growing up. It may not be the best bass in the world,...or even the best bass for me,...but I love it anyway and will never get rid of it.

I paid ~$1500 for it in 2000 and I highly doubt I could get that for it right now.

Is there any reason that you are looking for a 5er? If you are wanting that Low B you can always get a heavy gauge set of strings and a setup and go BEAD (leaving of the G). Might have to open the nut up a little bit to take the bigger strings so weigh your options before you do such a thing.

Played my friend's new G&L tribute 5 string the other day and those basses are pretty legit, especially for the prices they go for used. Don't sell that sexy bass!

Do you like the maple neck or the rosewood fretboard better, I prefer the maple neck my self, but since you have both I thought I would ask. :idk:

I'm just busting chops man,....

I've never played on a scalloped fingerboard,...so I have no opinion either way

:thumb:

That said,...with Fenders (that have regular fingerboards) I prefer Maple Necks Myself. The rosewood on even the American Standards just seem cheap to me.

One piece maple necks I agree, maple on maple though... ghettophonic. Still I think on a whole I like rosewood the best :idk:

I think I may be more turned off by lack of care then the actual material itself if you catch my drift.

If I may; What'samatter with Maple on Maple?

:)

I just looks cheap! What makes a all maple look cool is it is one piece.. I'm not saying it can't be done right, Music man's way is awesome: they saw the fb off the neck rout for the truss rod and then glue it back on and it is really hard to see the seam :thumb:

Same, I did play a '78 SG with a rosewood fingerboard, and it was AMAZING, but also way out of my pricerange. But yah Maple neck is the only way to go, for guitar for me. Both my basses have rosewood fingerboards, both my guitars have maple necks, :idk:
