I've got to say I was never offended by his new logo...on the other hand that new fulltone solid state tape delay unit in all black with the huge SS logo...

Yeah me too. I'm glad he stuck with the front/top mounted jacks as well and is using the " bottom" plate as the top. Those new graphics are awesome, i might have to try harder to pay attention this go around if he posts more for sell...a dual lfo vibrato seems lots of fun.

Alright. So I have received two Kompakt Kassettes recently, both of the questionable design. One was shipped in a blank box. The second one came in the box pictured. I always gave him a bit of a pass because stuff like this can happen meaning that your intentions are sometimes different than everybody else percieves them (and coming from the punk rock world, I am kind of used to people pushing the lines of taste). Like UG thought, it could have just been a symbol or a video game alien. I am sure that this whole thing is just a reference to Eastern religions but when you send a product out to any kind of diverse audience it could be seen as something completely different.

My point in showing the box was that the symbol is spray painted on the box but it was just to illustrate what jwar and others noted that it is definately two swastikas attached. I know a svastika/manji isn't always a bad thing (I have built many houses and some families use the symbols to bless their house, freaked a lot of people out that worked in there but I explained it to people and they were cool with it) but that isn't what Western audiences read it as because one of the most cultural and important events of the last 100 years involved the symbol.

Here is my problem: include a little note that says "This is a manji it means this...". The fact that a box for the US did not include this and a box to Japan did is a little telling that it probably was less of an attempt to prod and stir up some controversy and probably more just a reference to religious symbols. Still, as a creator or something meant for market consumption, the creator should take into account the views and possible interpetations of the audience. Mistakes will happen, but there are ways to lessen the blow (talk to friends, show other people, etc before sending it out).

I am actually having a similar problem with the reissue of one of my favorite albums: G.I.S.M.'s Sakevi redesigned the cover art-I won't post it or describe it-and I don't know if his intentions are to offend, to inform (people of beliefs I don't agree with), or to be discriminatory in nature. It puts me in a strange position when comtemplating getting the album (which I wont because it goes for $100 a week after it was released anyway, but I don't think I want that cover in my collection and it really hurts the way I view G.I.S.M. even though, deep down, I know what Sakevi's intentions are...but it is perceived through the audience's eyes not the creators///totally different experiences).

Maybe it was intendend to be offensive, show religious beliefs, or just look cool, but I just don't know if an effect pedal is the appropriate medium to pose questions, make an attempt at "art", or stir up trouble. It is a utilitarian device, not a page or canvas.

Also, now I have a box I have to hide when people come over to jam. haha

I think you make some solid points sir, however I do think a builder has the freedom to express whatever they like regarding their aesthetic. Some people use bible quotes, some people use sweet art, some people use questionable symbols, etc. Consumers get to make the decision on whether or not to buy the product.

Granted, Seppuku doesn't always show you what your pedal will look like, but it wasnt denied or hidden that said symbol could potentially grace your pedal. I agree western culture is probably not at a point to fully accept that symbol yet, especially on the outside of the packaging. I wouldn't want a box with a swastika showing up on my doorstep either.

I would hope that if he continues to use the symbol he would included that educational "this is what this means" explination wherever it appears.
