I say you can believe what you want to believe, but it doesn't matter what anyone believes because everyone is a moron.
keyword: EVERYONE.

I think your Eliphas Levi avatar's actually pretty funny for someone who professes to hate religion so much --- kind of an atheist teapartier

Anyway this whole argument isn't about religion; it's about systematic rape and abuse of children by members of an institution that was covered up by the now head of that institution. Of course, if it were any institution than a religious one, heads would roll, no question.

hahahahahahahaha
why the fuck are you arguing about religion?
I don't believe in god, but i believe that if you believe in something, and that helps you get through the day, there's no harm in it.
I find scientology fascinating, i feel like it was a bunch of nerds that decided the idea of an alien coming to save them on judgement day was cool so they stuck with it. Cool. I think it's hilarious.
Also Morax, i don't know if you know shit about history, but i'm fairly certain the christians had ideals in which they perpetuated as myths in order to convert people to believe in christianity.
Oh gee... thats funny... what is your large block of text?
A bunch of ideals perpetuating myths.....
Get off your fucking high horse and get a clue dude.

I think people just called for some amount of civility and fairness (as far as understanding that there
are Christians out there, however few, that try to follow the whole "be kind/loving/accepting" thing). I haven't seen anyone jumping to defend the pope or Christianity, just calling for some calmness and reason rather than inciting/heated language. Just the way this board is, despite being extremely open-minded. I don't see anyone else here who wants to fight.
exactly. it's not about what you or i or anybody actually believes is right morax, it's about not being an asshole and being accepting of the viewpoints of others.
not to mention it IS incredibly ignorant of you to assume that you fully understand what my ideals are, even without knowing what branch of christianity i identify with, or how i feel about the church as an institution, or evolution, or masturbation. your accusations are incredibly insulting, to say nothing of your blatant hypocrisy in saying that christianity itself breeds cruelty and hate when you have no compunctions over attacking a stranger for his beliefs.
but if that's how you wanna play, go fuck yourself.

Let’s tone this one down.
Opinions are fine, personal attacks and name calling is not.

I agree and I started it.
I didn't want this to be a religious bashing nor brew fights between one another. I just wanted to see people's opinions.

I'm an atheist in Utah, so I have a lot of experience with crappy religious rivalry and abuse of religious power.
I have my mormon friends, and then I have my anti-mormon friends, and they're both stupid. I try very hard not to be bitter against a religion that harbours a faith in bigfoot (they believe he's cain from the bible), and I try not to be so extreme an atheist as to have "a belief that god doesn't exist" versus 'not believing in god,' if that makes sense. While I agree with what Morax has said, the way he seems to go aproach the subject it is pretty facist. And actually his approach assumes that Christianity is false, without backing it up, the claims he's made haven't disproven anything. Just because an arguement is based on faulty premises doesn't mean that the conclusion isn't true.
As to the whole arresting the pope thing, while it is a kindof trivial and very showey to arrest the pope for this thing, I think it's necessary. It would be a symbolic way of asserting the authority of democracy and the rule of law over religious authority, and until we as a society can accept that governing authority comes from the masses and not from on high we're in danger from tyranny by religion and individuals both. But yeah, try to keep the discussion classy

What he said, only I'm not an atheist and I'm not in Utah.
