my $.02, Midi Murf. More expensive fo sho but it's like a slicer where YOU decided the patterns it holds. you program the sequences and what have you. fuckin eh right.

The sound in the first few seconds sounds like a dry bass signal through a slicer, but then at 0:16 it turns into this noisier sound. I was wondering if the slicer is able to not only slice the sound up, but also alter the initial tone.

I know it's a bass through a BOSS Slicer, but I'm wondering if they are using any other effect pedals on the bass signal, or is it possible to get such a sound just with the Slicer?

He uses a Moog Ring Mod. Maybe some delay and stuff too. Honestly, you could almost get that sound by just running feedback through the Slicer. I think "In Violet" is 33? Don't remember.

For awhile, the Slicer WAS my tremolo. You can totally get those sounds from it. I quit using it because there are too many damn knobs for live use for me. It was often hard to get the mix/volume right. It's on our other guitarist's board now; he's way better at using it with guitar than I was.

If you turn the tempo way up, you can get some sweet modulation.

I am thinking of buying one, but since it's pretty expensive I'm not completely sure. And what have you meant with:

The Murf has stereo outs, so can get pretty close to the slicer.

My Alesis Ampliton can do all kinds of crazy panning patterns, but that's more of a table-top thang than an actual pedal.

Only thing close (and I have one) is a Digitech Time Bender on the Envelope Delay mode - you can run the onboard harmonizer to step sequence including random patterns.

It gets retardedly wild, especially with multi-head panning in stereo.

The thing with my Roland GR-55 synth through it can be mindblowing.

Suppose I shoud add using a patch like this and the expression pedal where you fade the harmonizer in and out can be stupidly brutal, especially if you alter the delay time too, but I was again very lazy.

I don't get the comparison of Slicer and MuRF. They're just too different. They are both sequenced effects of course but I can't get Slicer sound from MuRF and vice versa. For rhythmic stuff I prefer Slicer. And it gets like billion times better in stereo. And if you use it in mono put some crazy envelope filter after it. I tried it with Robot Factory Wormhole and was blown away.

I was able to get them to sound reasonably similar. When the envelope knob on the Murf is all the way counter-clockwise, it does the Slicer effect pretty damned well. But I agree that for stuff like that, I prefer the Slicer, which I why I sold the Murf and kept the Slicer.

I think one day I'd like to try the Goatkeeper running into the trigger in of the Boss DSD3 while all of this runs into the Murf.
