get one of these for $70 and you will be the master of the transistors. it tells you the pinout and the gain :yay:

eatyourguitar wrote:I dont think your gonna run 3 100m caps in the signal path. thats too much. its gotta be right...right? I'm looking at the original fuzz face schem and there is a 2.2m electro on the input and a 10n cap on the output. your not gonna have 300m. more like 2.21m

the big muff has 6 100n caps inline with the signal for a total of 600n

on the 2n5089 you can substitute 2n5088. the 89 is just higher max operating voltage with everything else the same.

Not too sure if you read the layout wrong or made a typo but there should only be 300nF spread across three 100nF caps. That's not too much is it?

yeah exactly we know whats in the wizard fountain, its 300n which is less than a fuzz face or big muff. the 300uF or 300mF is just ridiculous. I was trying to put it in perspective. especially since a lot of mellowtone schemos are loosely based on fuzz face circuits. obviously its been extensively modified with some changes, additions and omissions. just look at the wizard fountain next to the wolf cpu next to the fuzz face. its very educational :thumb:

Aww ok I get you now, sorry :) must try that comparison alright, although I haven't seen the Wolf Cpu schematics yet

I think those aren't officially released yet.. Wolf Computer is not really a discontinued pedal right?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'm sure it's similar to the wolf computer but with a few resistors to replace the pots. The wolf computer's based on a boost and a fuzz face if I remember right, isn't it?

Correct. Let's not get into this discussion again. We all know better than to RE in-production pedals, right? RIGHT?!

hey Tom and Eric, please move this to DIY instead of mellowtone. I know that other thread was in DIY. I'm trying to help the noobs while not pissing on the grand wizards.

Did anyone ever make one of these??? Had totally forgotten I had done up a layout. Was thinking of buying/building a nice fuzz with a form of blend for some shoegaze rhythm tones. While it's not an entirely clean blend I think the Wizard Fountain is what I'm looking for. Wish there was an original available to buy, but looks like I'll just have to build one instead.

I might make this tonight. I have all the parts in stock and that usually doesn't happen. its my lucky day.

BTW thats a 8 pin DIP socket with 2 pins cut off. I started socketing transistors with DIP 8's.

Its almost exactly like the perf layout I posted above. on the far left is the LED resistor I added. I'm hoping I can etch and drill the box tomorrow. the transistor socket works great. I have to do that on every pedal now.

when you dont have a laser printer, just use wax. if you etch too fast, you'll melt the wax from the heat. this was a 3 hour etch. I wanted to do it in one hour but the temp is much lower at night.

Wow, that's coming along nicely!! Looking forward to seeing the finished pedal :) definitely think I'm going to go ahead with my own build of one of these. Simple enough to build and a nice unique sounding pedal. Amazed they didn't sell too well. Wish Eric would even do a small re-issue run or something! Would love to have the proper artwork to go with it.
