Tom Dalton wrote:Sorry, but stanimal is right. Vex is only here to defend his pedal and drum up discussion about it online. Do you see him posting anything in the General Discussion? Anything not related to him and his pedals?

Which is fine with me. It's just a little too soon to start talking about him like he's a contributing member of ILF.

but how many ILF builders actually actively post in the General Discussion or interact w/ the ILF community outside of their sub-forum besides you & devi? me personally i would LOVE to see the Great Fuzz Unification of 2010 than a continual perpetuation of internecine fuzz squabbles: let bygones be bygones. if Zvex or Fran ACTUALLY wanted an ILF sub-forum then i really think it would be a mistake not to allow it. IMO. Zvex could offer a lot of useful information & guidance to small builders. & didn't Fran work at EHX? either way, if she was here & she interacted & such that would be rad.
i guess the bigger picture here is what purpose does ILF serve. as a general discussion/open forum of fuzz & cool pedals in general or a promotional vehicle for ILF pedals.

It’s all about the interaction.
Aen, cam into the Devi forums and then started building and Dwarfcraft was born.
Soon ILF evolved and both Tom and Ryan came aboard and interacted with every one.
Eric soon followed.
I understand if any one doesn’t post all sorts of things in other forums, they are busy making goodies for the rest of us.
Now if only the new builders (hint hint) would build an OD Machine and an Ezekiel clone I would have to support them to the end of time.

If Vex wanted his forum hosted at ILF, I'd make it happen! But he's got his own board and I doubt he'd want one here. Though consolidating manufacturer forums on a larger forum (like ILF) increases discussion and posting across the board. People have one less forum they need to log into, etc, so I think you end up with more members and more discussion if your forum is hosted at ILF.

I think ILF serves all those purposes in a way.
Sure, part of ILF is promotion and outreach for builders with forums here. But we're all mixing business and pleasure and friendship--community. That's what ILF is about.
Though there's no such thing as "ILF pedals"...each manufacturer is 100% independent and definitely survives on their own merit alone. Each is the sole moderator of their forum, can do and say what they want there. Sometimes you'll hear the phrase "ILF builders," but all that means is "builder with a forum hosted at ILF." ILF is just the place that hosts their forums for the convenience of them and forum members. So it's cool when hosted manufacturers are involved outside of their own forum, but 1) there
should be a bit of a separation between ILF and their own brand--ILF hosts their forum and that's it, and 2) most of us are often too busy building pedals to post frequently outside our own forum.
If a manufacturer isn't involved in their own forum, though, their forum will disappear.

IDK. i don't think it is that hard to separate the two. i think it has more to do w/ what ILF 'denotes' moar than an actual 'brand.' like i ended up here looking for Diamond Skeleton & that is how i found Fuzzhugger. looking for moar info on a cool pedal not a "small builder." but Diamond Skeleton doesn't have a sub-forum...
i agree ILF operates on many levels. if there is going to be moar small builder sub-forums then fine but if ILF becomes small builders vs "bigger" boutiques then i think that would be counterproductive, unnecessarily "ideological" & most unfortunate. IMO.
peace.

Make a new forum for even-more-serious-DIYers, and discussion in the DIY forum dies...or is split in two.
Completely understood, and makes total sense. Would it be cool for interested new builders to make dedicated threads for themselves in the DIY section?

Not that I have a say with all my 26 posts but this sounds like the best way of doing things.
For what it's worth I came for the diy and gear sections (and the fact that I love fuzz).

I'm on another forum (Giant in the Playground Games, the best forum on the internet

), which is based on a pretty popular webcomic. A good portion of members have fancomics, some of which are almost as popular as the main comic. They get plenty of traffic to their threads simply with links in their signatures, so I think a similar aproach should work here. I suppose if anyone gets big enough, we can sticky them, but creating a subforum for them should be only considered if they start getting Tonefactor/GMD demos.
