I am one of those too. There are many more of us out there! :thumb: Gene Simmons spitting blood during a bass solo made me want to play bass so I can spit blood during a bass solo! Haven't had a bass solo yet. :grumpy:

This sums up my opinion. I can't stand vocalist that follow a trend and try to sound like someone else. I enjoy Arcade Fire, the pixies, white stripes, and smashing pumpkins, and to me they all have unique vocalists. Vocalists are what turn me on to a band.

As far as lyrics, yeah they can ruin a song for me, sometimes i listen to pumpkins b-sides and the music is great but I listen to the lyrics and I'm like... "so thats why it wasn't on the record."

I just don't understand how somone can say they like a song/band but don't like the vocals (or whatever). Those are part of the song. In fact, they ARE the song. :idk:

So what does that make bands like Russian Circles?

Instrumental.

Maybe you don't understand what I mean. If you don't like an aspect of a song you can't say you like the song. It's like having a painting that's dominated by a shittily-drawn tree in the dead center and saying "Wow, I really like this painting, if it only wasn't for that goddamned tree obscuring my visionz and ruining everything!"

The lyrics are the song in the same way the drums/guitar/bass/vocals/tempo changes/texture/production are the song. It's a piece of art, yo.

Well I suppose thats exactly what people are saying. the song is good except the shittily sung lyrics in the middle of the song.

Iunno, maybe Im confusing lyrics and vocal style

Yeah, I'm basically saying can you REALLY like the song if you don't like some aspect of it?

Well, no - that's the problem, and where the ruination lies. What I mean when I say that is that I WOULD like the song if it weren't for the lyrics or vocal style. So I don't like it as it is, but the potential for me liking the song was there.
