Sex party in Montreal but it looks like that is only in British Columbia.
i am torn b/w the Marijuana Party and the
Rhinoceros Party. Neorhino party proposes a guaranteed weekly orgasm that is hella rad.

What's so horrible about Chicago? I've heard good things about it.... musically-speaking, anyway.

Chicago is cool. They have bands like Tortoise and Del Rey. I was actually considering going to school there.

there is absolutly nothing horrible about chicago! i was just teasing mr. summers on his quest to leave the us! from previous posts he has made he gave me the impression that he is from chicagoland or at least lived here for a long while. i do not know what he is doing in the atlanta area, but if i was from chicago and ended up in atlanta i would be mad too!

yes, we also have bands like pelican, american draft, and smashing pumpkins!!! shit, even kim thayil grew up here and adam jones was born and raised in the 'burbs. we have all the music you could want. the jazz is cool and mellow, hot and heavy, or just plain crazy!!! we have every nationality on earth in this city so you can get any kind of food you want. the weather could be better, but it could be a whole lot worse. the museums are incredible, we have two airports, pretty good public transportation, and goose island brewery!!! damn good beer that just does not taste the same in the bottles.....
chicago is great, come on over guys and lets have a drink!

atlanta is a great city. for me, it has just run its course. & there are a lot of negative things i could level against chicago. so i will not.
this is not a "moratorium" on North American cities. but a general discussion about the city of Montreal.
peace.

I play all kinds of music, as I do a lot of session stuff, but when I'm doing MY thing, its usually of the funk persuasion and generally, it's very FUZZy and heavy (but not like Rage or anything. it's straight up funk, just DIRTY). Not always, though. I posted a link to a tune in the music section and it's not even a little bit fuzzy. Sometimes, I also write folky/countryish tunes.
The scene is not incredibly awesome but it doesn't suck. The indie scene certainly sucks... it's mostly metal, as it seems to be in almost every other city lately and like I said before, lots of venues are closing down (Ottawa is worse, though. I think they have *maybe* two venues left in the city). the Ungerground though, is great! There are lots of loft and basement concerts, a crapload of open mics and open jam sessions. One really cool band/concept is called L'Envers (
http://www.myspace.com/lenvers185), which means "backwards", in french. They open up their loft every now and again and have a secret party. Word of mouth invite, kinda thing. Check out "Ratchet Orchestra" when you hit their myspace. This is a written tune, but more-often-than-not, it's improv.
Given that there are often festivals and such, it's usually fairly easy to get a gig, as long as your a decent musician and are willing to play whatever, if necessary. The same problems with original music applies here, as they do everywhere else. (pay-to-play venues, sketchy bookers, crappy venues with crappy gear, etc.)
Overall though, it's a pretty tight network... if you get to know ppl, you get the hook ups.

I just want to clarify something: It's not that I dislike metal. It's just that I love variety. Too much of the same thing sucks and everybody seems to be sucking lately.

i think i'd more into the Aids Wolf/Friendship Cove "scene" or something. & hit the touring artists at Casa De Popolo if i wanted to keep up American Indie thing (which i really don't...).
so i was wondering if there are like a lot of NYC ex-pats in Montreal. i am not sure about this but it sort-of-kind-of seems like it. or is there a decent American ex-pat scene in Montreal.
